I am so glad the OP asked this question.
I am having the problem of deciding on what to put in our kitchen. The owners before us put carpet in the kitchen. In my whole life I have never heard of someone putting carpet in the kitchen.
We have two dogs, a Rott and Retreiver, who go out the back door to the yard. Like others I have a problem of dirty feet and water bowls that DS likes to fill to full and gets water every where.
Our kitchen is pretty big and I have read the responses about flooring. For a big kitchen what would be more cost effective and not be ruined so quickly by two dogs? I don't want to go broke putting in a floor and then have these two turn around ruin it. Not really worried about cold. I always wear shoes out to the kitchen cause this carpet is so thin {no padding under it} that it's not comfortable at all to walk on.

My cat loves those spots. No need to seal....at least we don't and nobody we know does either. Repairing tile....make sure you have plenty of extras. IF one breaks, just chistle it out, add new one and grout it. That easy.
