Just wondering if anyone knows the best airline routes from Toronto (or close drive) for a trip to Disneyland (LAX, SNA, or other near by).

If's not preferred, but we could drive a couple hours on either end if needed to save money. For example, I have searched flying out of Buffalo, but am not seeing direct or cheaper flights so it's of no advantage.

A direct flight is preferred (but then if we have to drive a couple hours first, guess that's sortuv the same thing in terms of travel time). I'm surprised that when looking, the only direct option I'm seeing is Toronto to LAX. Looking at August if that makes a difference.

I don't think there are any direct routes to SNA from YYZ, so that might be why.

An option for you is to fly into San Diego. It's 2 hours out from Disneyland (vs about 45-60 from LAX) and the drive up is smoother with (theoretically) less traffic. Plus if you were planning to visit Sea World, the Zoo and/or Legoland you'd have to head down there anyway.

San Diego is an interesting option. We would tour LA or surrounding area for a few days and San Diego looks like a great place to visit...so could even start our trip there. I did a search and depending on the day you leave, there are direct flights (and sometimes only 1 stop available).

Did you try checking Southwest? You have to go directly to their website. We flew from Buffalo to Lax, connecting through Baltimore on the way there and direct from Lax home and it was very reasonable last October. We were on an Adventures by Disney trip so we were picked up at the airport but on the way home from Disney we just hired a Town Car service to take us back and it was around $100.

When I checked out of Buffalo, the flights all had 1 stop so it makes it a long travel time (extra flying time plus the 2hr drive to Buffalo). Not dismissing it though if it saves us money.

Saving money vs. saving time is one of those eternal struggles when travelling, and it varies by person. I guess you'd have to ask yourself if the money you save on flights/parking is worth the 2 or so hours you'd spend on the layover plus the time it takes to drive to BUF over and above driving to YYZ. And if you're looking at a stopover, you might as well fly into SNA if it makes economic sense. Personal bias on my part, but I avoid LAX if I can help it.

Exactly, and I think it would depend on just how much of a savings it is.

I've heard people mention SNA is much better than LAX, but am not exactly sure why. is it just that SNA is a lot smaller?

When are you looking to go? JetBlue has a two day sale right now from Buffalo to LAX for $129/USD one way with dates into January (approx 258$/usd round trip depending on the days you choose)

Wow...that's an awesome deal! We're not going until August, but will definitely check them out when ready to purchase the tickets. For that price, it's worth it to drive to Buffalo...even if we needed a hotel for a night.

another great tool for getting good flight prices is www.itamatrix.com but make sure you choose the "See calendar for lowest fares" option and then put in the month you want to travel. It takes some playing around with length of stay etc but you need to book directly with the airlines, you cant book on the ita matrix itself, it is just a tool for finding airfare prices.

For me personally it would be more that LAX is, to put it nicely, a cluster.

Smaller airports do have their advantages, of course - TSA lines are shorter, you spend less time on the tarmac waiting to take off, etc, but LAX has too much going against it for me to recommend flying there. I'm fairly certain I have a perfect record of having my flights delayed at LAX, and whatever methodology they have to get you through the TSA line is very, very bad.
