Best excursions for western cruise?

Many thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions. Now for the tough part, deciding which ones to do. Looks like the Stingray City Tour for sure.

For those who have done the Tulum tour, how do you think it would appeal to kids (ages 17 and 11) ?

Re the horseback riding, it sounds like it would be fine for inexperienced riders but just wanted to cofirm as we are VERY inexperienced. Think that would be okay?

Thanks Again,
Hank T.

Nicki does a ride that would be fine for you. It's a nice slow ride on the beach. Go ahead and contact her, by email and talk with her about it. I am sure this will be the highlight of your trip.

My 8 year old son (riding only since April) rode with us in August and was fine. He's a 45 lb, 48" child, by the way. If you don't try to be "Lone Ranger", I think you could do it too!!!!

By the way, she will trot/canter for those who are more experienced and request it. But the walk on the beach is just exactly that a S L O W walk.

Best wishes!!!

Rae

Another question about the Tulum ruins tour. For those that did it, is it best to do with DCL or on our own? If you do it on your own, what is the price difference?

Thank you,
Cathy

I would definitely do this tour through DCL. It involves a 45 minute ferry ride to the mainland, followed by an hour bus ride to Tulum. In total the transportation time was about 2 1/2 hours each way (adding in walking to the buses, waiting to depart, etc.). If you are on a DCL tour the ship will wait for you if you are late getting back. If you go on your own it will not.

The DCL tour was $90 for adults and $70 for kids 9 and under. I would think it would end up costing you close to that when you factor in all of the components (ferry ride, bus ride, lunch (which is provided on the DCL tour) and admission to Tulum), but with DCL's tour you know the ship will be there should something happen to delay you.

Our tour left the ship just after we docked and we returned at about 5:30pm.
