We are going to WDW for a New Year's trip and wanted to know which DVC resort would be the best place to stay, and why? All feedback and recommendations wanted.

We will be at the Beach Club Villas for New Year's Eve, which is my 21st birthday too! This will be our fourth year in a row going for NYE. The first 2 years we stayed at the Boardwalk, last year Beach Club Villas and next year Beach Club Villas. We like it because we try to avoid the parks when they get crazy crowded. This way we can have a nice NYE dinner at Spoodle's, Flying Fish, etc. and then view IllumiNations from the bridge outside the park. Then when the show is over we walk right back to our villa, no dealing with buses or crowds. Perfect! At the other DVC resorts it wouldn't be quite as easy to get back after the fireworks.

Great info. Are the parks less crowded after New Year's Eve? Generally, how is the first week in January?

We were there December 31st-January 9th this year. It definitely calmed down after the 2nd or 3rd, but I would still say the crowds were pretty high.

We stayed at BCV for New Years Eve. We did not want to go to any of the parks, but I think it was a good choice of a resort or BWV which was our first choice for this trip.

There was easy access to the boardwalk and it was very festive. It was also possible to see the fireworks from both Epcot and MGM.

Regarding crowds in the days after New Years Eve, I was astounded at how crowed it was. I suppose the busiest time we've ever visited before was in August, and I thought this was much more crowed. The crowds did not seem to go down until around the 3rd.

not this last NYE but the NYE before we stayed at SSR, i would stay there again if they have the following again. Down by the quite pool SSR had family games and handed out prizes, party hats, noise makers. then we all sat down by the water for the fireworks, the fireworks were so close and bursting right over our heads it was pretty cool. We ate at Ohana's for dinner, but you could easly take the bus to DTD for dinner. :thumbsup2

Interesting on the number of you who say it is very crowded. Are the parks actually crowded as well? Jan 1 starts Disney's value season and I would have thought that most people are there the week of Christmas.

Parks are PACKED on NYE day. We like going to Epcot for NYE, and this year it wasn't as bad as we had experienced before, but still very busy. This year, a lot of schools didn't go back until the 9th of January, so crowds stayed up a little. They did drop off a lot after the 4th, but then the marathoners came in. We usually LOVE that first week of January. We will be doing the first 10 days of December after our March trip. We like to get 3 trips on one AP. I much prefer the early December time for shows and decor, but the crowds have picked up quite a bit during that season in the past couple of years.

We stayed at BWV for NYE. They had a party on the village green for those not going to a park. We were at EPCOT -- incredibly crowded!! I did read a lot of posts from others that they left EPCOT and went to MGM, which was more enjoyable.
We went to AK on New Year's Day and it worked out great. We did not have to FP anything -- the longest wait for anything was about 20-minutes at Festival of Lion King. That was the only time I have ever been in AK where it was not very crowded. Later, we went to DD and were able to get a table for 7 at Wolfgang Puck's with little or not wait.

Haha. Very funny. I just figure a lot of people expect less crowds since it is "value" season. But we have gone for New Years many times now and I have never seen what I would call value season crowds until after the 10th or so.
