We are owners at BWV. As we grow older and our children leave the nest, we envision trips to Disneyworld being more focused on the resort and not the parks. Please give me your opinion as to where the best DVC would be for just staying at the resort the majority of the time. The parks would not be our main priority although we would venture there a bit. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!!

For me.....it would be a Savanah view at AKV. As a photographer, I could see myself spending hours and hours taking animal shots.

Mine would be Saratoga because I love looking across the water at Downtown Disney/Marketplace.

DW and I do that now. During a 10 day vacation we will maybe visit the parks 5 days, just to eat, look around, or maybe go on a couple of rides.

BWV is our favorite resort for just hanging out.

us too....
10-13 days, 2-3x a year, and most of our time is spent outside of the parks.
we love the BWVs because there is so much to do, and so many great places/ways to relax there. the parks are really just a backup, with our real vacation destination being the bordwalk :cloud9:

Another vote for AKV, savanna view. DH and I celebrated our 15th anniversary there, and never set foot in a park! We truly feel like AKV is a destination in itself. :cloud9::cloud9:

I would think the EPCOT resorts would be the best. No only do you have four in close proximity (BWV, BCV, Swan, Dolphin), but it also has the boardwalk, itself. You can also go to that minitaure golf place near these resorts, and the gas station is close if you need something quick not available by Disney proper.

Since EPCOT is right there, you could easily make dining reservations and DHS is a short boat ride away for additional theme park action. EPCOT's firework shows are also fairly visible. This location is also closer to the interstate, should you decide to visit other offerings in Orlando.

A distant second would likely be a DTD resort, especially SSR, since it is on the golf course. DTD offeres the shopping and a variety of restaurants.

Of course, there are the non-WDW DVC resorts waiting for you. VGC allows for a nice vacation in the LA area. HHI and VB would be great for beach destinations, and we don't want to forget Hawaii.

You could also use your points to explore some of the five-star resorts around the country or trade into RCI for a week in another country. maybe a cruise would be nice, sometime...

Lots of options for you! :thumbsup2

AKV, BWV, or SSR. Of those, I'd actually lean to SSR; there's more to do at Downtown Disney than around the Boardwalk, and I suspect that AKV might wear thin if you didn't have anywhere else to go.

Its BLT 4 Me. Take a walk to the MK and sit around and watch the tourists (you are not one because you live there. Rent a boat from the CR marina. take a boat over to WL campground and rent some horses. Take a monorail ride to no where. Try parasailing at CR. Take a fishing trip from CR. Enjoy the spa at CR.

My wife and I do that also.

We like to hang out at the different resorts and taking in the experiences.

(Perhaps if the DVC made the park tickets more afordable for it's memebrs, we might visit the parks more often during our stay). Are you listening DVC??

Another vote for AKV savanna view - and BWV/BCV. AKV you can be entertained in your room with watching animals and BWV/BCV you can be entertained walking around the lake and soaking in the boardwalk fun. So it would depend on how sedentary you might want to be.

All of them have their perks.

SSR/OKW for access to DTD (shopping, restaurants, Cirque, movies, etc). From DTD, you can easily take a bus to any resort for meals.
BWV/BCV for all the activities in the BW area. Boat/walk to DHS and then take a bus to any resort for meals.
AKV has the animals and great theming. It also has a couple of our favorite table service restaurants.
WLV has lots to do at Fort Wilderness. Easy access to the monorail resorts.
BLT has the monorail to Poly and GF, walk/monorail to MK and take a bus to any resort for meals, and boat to WL for activities there.

HHI :cool1:

We were there for 5 days this month at SSR and only went to MK one day. And we didn't go until 3 pm - which is very unlike us. This was our first trip to SSR and felt it would take a week just exploring the resort it's so big. We spent a lot of time at DTD, went to La Nouba, ate at House of Blues, visited all the shops - one had a couple of artists there signing their art - that was really fun talking to them.

But if I don't want to go to a park - it's HHI for us. Looking forward to visiting VB next summer too. It's our last DVC to visit - until Hawaii!!!

AKV -- just pay attention to how far away you room is from the lobby if you stay in Jambo, but AKV has so much going on for adults too that it's great to just hang there. We did the tour of the restauarants in afternoon & enjoyed learning about them & having a chance to talk to the cooks.

BCV & BWV would be my 2nd hang at the hotel

If you enjoy DTD, then SSR might be fun for you.

You can always do a split stay to make it interesting.

Have fun!

The few time DH an I have gone without the kids we have chosen SSR. The quiet pools are great for reading a good book. Love the easy access to DTD for dinner and drinks.

Another vote for SSR/OKW. These resorts are far enough away from the parks and the theming is less "Disney". This makes me feel that I am just on vacation at a wonderful resort that has easy access to entertainment, dining and shopping. :goodvibes So why go there and not some other nice resort? It's still DISNEY...and we get that wonderful feeling and customer service. :thumbsup2

What great ideas- we'll be in this same situation (a great one), in a few years, and we've been talking about what we'll do with our points. I'm all for visiting WDW , but just hanging at the resorts, sounds so relaxing! But our kids can't imagine us going to WDW w/o them- oh well, they need to grow up some day :)

We love resort-only trips. We enjoy OKW & SSR because they are so relaxed. If you want a bit of action, shopping or great food, DTD is only a pleasant walk away.

We also liked our weekend stay at VWL where we enjoyed watching deer and taking nature walks.

This is why I love Disney and DVC....we have come to enjoy the resorts as much as the parks---

AK is great for viewing animals and the resturants...Boma, Jiko and Sanna
We have never stayed at the concierge level...but...plan to some day son!

Saratoga is close to Downtown Disney so that is great...it is a very pretty and quiet resort

Boardwalk is walking distance to Epcot and has the boardwalk to enjoy...

have fun!
