best dry hand cream that doesnt sting

I have found Okeeffe's working hands hand cream to be amazing!! Soft, smooth, heals, and protects!!!

I agree with cetaphil restoraderm. DD has had eczema for years. We finally went to a dermatologist who recommended this. There is a soap and a cream. We use both. The cream does sting, so we blow on it. DD also doesn't like it because it leaves a film, but it has been wonderful. Her skin is so much better than it has ever been. She just had a flare this week and we have been using the cream a couple of times a day and a little cortisone ointment on the worst areas just a couple of times. Her skin is almost recovered. In the past, we would have battled this for months. I am so sorry we didn't know about this sooner. She had a cracked, dry finger that I worked with the ped to get better for years. It never did. Since we have been using the cream and soap, it has been healed with just a flare now and then.

The soap and cream are expensive - about $15 a bottle, but the major drug chains have sales regularly of bogo. She uses the soap for body and hand wash and uses the cream as needed. I would like for her to use the cream daily all over but she doesn't like the film, but it has definitely helped.

Neutrogena hand cream. Fragrance free. Norwegian formula. It's a lot like petroleum jelly. Only hand cream I've used for 25+ years.

Neutrogena Hand Cream in the tube. It is very thick so I only use it at night (otherwise it takes a few minutes for the cream to soak in) and I wake up with soft hands each morning. It's available at most drugstores.

Rexeme. It can be hard to find in stores but you can get it online.

Best. Cream. Ever.

DS has eczema. Aquaphor, cetaphil and cerave all sting his skin. Also anything with even the slightest scent is a no go.

He gets relief from aveeno eczema care cream. Thankfully, it has worked for years and he hasn't built up a resistance as he has to other products.

We use vanicream soap for face and hand washing, as well as bathing.

This. Eczema and dry/chapped hands are NOT the same thing and what works on dry hands can irritate eczema. You need something that specifically treats eczema, and I too have had good luck using Aveeno Eczema Therapy moisturizing cream. If the eczema gets bad enough where nothing is working, you need to see a doctor for prescription ointment.

My 10 yr old DD has super sensitive skin, so she has a bee bar that she keeps in her desk. Works really good for dry itchy hands, and there's no mess.:)

Replace your liquid pump hand soap at home with bar soap. We use Dove White. It helps us more than anything, those liquids are so drying.

Cetaphil is what we use in the tub. And when my daughter gets a particularly dry spot, hydrocortizone ointment not cream, we call it the magic goo at our house.

I had a dry spot on my had after living in El Paso and it just wouldn't ever go away. The doctor gave me some cream but said the best thing is to switch to bar soap. I was skeptical until we went away for a weekend and used bar soap a lot in a hotel...what do you know, it worked!

The only thing that has ever worked on my eczema is a cream called Elta. I can get it one place in my city (a compounding pharmacy), but you can buy it online as well. When I get a flareup it's gone within a few days as long as I use Elta!

My daughter gets dry, cracked skin on her hands (not eczema), and it works really well for her as well.

I use "No Crack Creme." (Day use) http://www.nocrack.com/ In the winters, my skin gets so dry, it cracks and peels and bleeds. I don't know if it's washing my hands too much, not drinking enough, or even maybe oils being stripped from my fingers by the yarn I knit and crochet with? Anyway, last winter, I read about this creme on a knitting/crochet blog. She said she liked it because it soaks in quickly, leaving her hands not greasy. So, I went on the hunt...

The only place I could buy it in person in my area was at a pharmacy in the hospital. It was under a dollar for a small tub (1/2 ounce) that I keep in my purse. I also keep one in my kitchen, and refill it from the larger jar (4 ounce, $3.99) that I keep on my dresser. I found out that they sell out quickly on the little ones, so I stock up when I go in and she has them, or refill the empties that I have from larger jars.

It is the most generic looking, old school jar, but man, this stuff works! When I started, my thumbs were cracked and bleeding, and peeling also - so badly that I was wearing a bandaid on my right thumb all the time so it wouldn't get dirty and infected. I started applying at least 3 times a day (usually more, I just applied it after every time I washed my hands) and within DAYS my hands were getting better. After 2 weeks, my hands looked normal!

Last winter, I went through one large tub and 2 small tubs. So far this winter, I've just bought 2 small tubs and one new large tub.

There is a slight scent, but I believe they sell it unscented too. The scent is faint and pleasant, but doesn't last long. The stuff itself is thick, like canned icing.

DH has used it on occasion on some tough, itchy psoriasis spots, some cracked and bleeding. Brings relief for the itch. Sometimes calms the splitting, as much as moisturizing can. He really likes when I massage his back with the creme. If I use a BUNCH (like a ball of it that' the size of a quarter), I can get some good massaging in as it soaks in, and all the spots on his back are moisturized too. If I just use a normal amount, it soaks in too quickly for me to work any tight muscles out.

HTH! Good luck!!!

ETA: I've also read that this is the same cream that's repackaged and sold at Restoration Hardware, sold for much more per ounce!

The only thing that doesn't sting my DD when her hands flare up is Aquaphor (Healing Ointment). We use it a few times a day for a few days and her hands calm right down. We keep travel tubes of Aquaphor in my purse and her backpack.

We use Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy lotion when her hands are not flaring up, but as soon as they flare up, the Aveeno stings like crazy and she has to wash it off right away and apply the Aquaphor.
