Going to WDW in Oct. and I am a very nervous passenger when it comes to going thru Jacksonville Fl and Orlando.

Does any one know a route that will take you away from the hussle/bussle of Jacksonville.

I live in SC so would start off on I-95 . Thanks for any suggestions

Your only real option is to get off 95 in Hero, FL and take Rte 200 west. 200 turns into US-301 which will take you to I-75 north of Ocala. You would then take I-75 to Florida's Turnpike (AKA the Reagan Turnpike) to 429 which takes you right to WDW.

It'll bypass Jacksonville and most of Orlando, but I'm not sure that's it's worth it though -- it'll add 50 minutes to your trip.

Actually, there are 2 other Jacksonville bypass options; the western bypass around Jacksonville and the eastern bypass around Jacksonville.

The western bypass is I-295 and the road begins just north of Jacksonville's airport exit and bypasses the entire core of the city. The eastern bypass begins at the same junction and is signed as SR 9A and is actually shorter than the western bypass however there is one unfinished section with a traffic light or two. (Once finished, this route will be re-signed as I-295 as well.) But don't use SR 9A if you're afraid of bridges because this route has a huge one!

Actually, unless you're passing through Jacksonville at evening rush hour, just stay on I-95 straight through downtown. It's the fastest route, even if there is a small back up at the I-10 junction.

I didn't recommend I-295 and SR-9A for the exact reason's you listed -- the traffic on them is usually backed up and is much worse than just continuing straight on I-95. Plus, both routes don't actually avoid Jacksonville, they just avoid downtown.

Thanks, even though I am more confused then ever, lol, I just remember when driving to Port Canaveral the traffic was horrible and I was praying the entire time until we got out of that horrible traffice and construction. I'm not one to flow with the traffic in and out of lanes.:scared1: If I have my way we will take the train:thumbsup2 I guess working in the Emergency Room has made me very paranoid about MVA's and those semi's do not help any.

I agree with the above couple of posts. If you can time your drive around "non-rush hours", getting through Jacksonville is no big deal.

You will make it from I-295 on the north to I-295 on the south in about 1/2 hour Max.

One caveat - Be careful around the I-95/I-10 interchange. A lot of construction is going on there. When you are approaching the interchange from the north, make sure you stay in the LEFT lane, & be prepared to slow down quickly. Even though you are STAYING on I-95, there is a bit of a ramp & cloverleaf there.

Stay left. Left.

Left.

But seriously, if you take I-295, you add time/distance. And if there is an accident on the Buckman Bridge, you will lose TONS of time.

Stay on '95 and go straight through. Except where you Stay Left........... :rotfl:

Assuming she's departing South Carolina in the morning, she should be in JAX around mid-day or early afternoon. So I-95 straight through remains the best idea.

I think someone else said, STAY LEFT. :-)
