Hello 👋🏻

For those who know the area and don’t blindly follow the gps, is this the best way to BWV from the i75? We will likely hit the Orlando area in the 4-6pm rush hour time. Sitting in stop and go traffic for the last 45 minutes of my long long drive is my worst nightmare.

Thanks!!

I can't really tell from that picture but I always take the turnpike. I drive down about 4 times a year from Ga. hit I75 south of Macon and stay on 75 until the turnpike. Once on the the turnpike it's pretty fast (except there is construction right now). There is an exit for WDW, take that and another turnpike for a while then it's an exit straight onto Disney property. No going through Orlando at all.

I live in Atlanta. So my trip is basically I75, bypass around Macon, then more I 75 then FL Turnpike, get off on 429 south and exit 8 I believe for Western Way into WDW. 75 can back up because of accident, Ocala section before the Turnpike is normally pretty heavy traffic. The Turnpike can have traffic especially in the area where they are working on expanding it.

What do you mean by "best"?
Also, the snippet of the map you show doesn't really leave a lot of options.

Avoiding the Turnpike and taking 44 to 27 is a choice, is two miles less, no tolls, but 30 minutes longer.

Of course, this map (as is yours) is from a GPS. Why do you think a GPS would send you the wrong way?

You’re right, I tried to upload two photos to show what the GPS suggested but only one posted.

I don’t think the GPS would take me the wrong way, I was more interested in any insider tips. Sometimes there is a way the GPS overlooks because it’s 2 minutes longer but it’s actually nicer and less stop and go. The GPS might also send you one way because it doesn’t predict that by the time you get half way the traffic near your destination will be completely different. Maybe that half hour longer route is something people actually find quicker by the time rush hour hits (as an example). That insider knowledge sometimes gets lost in the GPS. Great question though.

You will probably hit very heavy traffic on I-75 from north of Ocala south to where it meets the turnpike. The turnpike should be clear unless there is an accident or construction. It always seems to be stop and go through there regardless of when I come through.

From the turnpike, I would take the 429 south. There is a Walt Disney World exit off of the 429 that is well marked. This brings you onto property on Western Way. Western Way will dead end at W. Buena Vista Drive. Make a left onto Buena Vista Drive, staying in the left left-turn lane (there are two lanes turning left and one turning right). The BW will be on your left after you cross over World Drive. You can’t miss it.

I live northwest of Disney and take the 429 to Western Way route whenever I go to Disney. So long as you aren’t going to be visiting on a major holiday this should bring you in with the least amount of traffic.

Thanks so much! Do you think there is a best time of day to hit Ocala area traffic wise?

I have gone through there at all different times of the day from very early to very late and it does not seem to matter. I checked right now, and there are spots of stop and go traffic (in yellow).

I checked the route getting off I-75 in Ocala and coming down Hwy 27, which would be the next best route but there is only five minutes difference at this time, and you are going through small cities that can slow to a crawl during rush hour.

The route in the first post of this thread is the best. We are local and very familiar with traffic patterns of this route. You'll wind up with some congestion along 429 as you approach the first couple of exits right after you get on. But it won't be bad baring an accident. Once past those there is hardly any issue along that route.
