Wanted some opinons on the Downdown Disney Hotels. What's the best/worst ect. Would you choose one of them over a Disney Mod? We stayed at Riverside last year and didn't really like the spread out layout, or the room layout (no balcony, etc.). Please help! Thanks.

no because I like EMH and DME.

only the Hilton has EMH - and no DTD hotel has DME.

go rent a reservation from a DVC member - stay at a DVC resort - OKW, SSR, BWV, BCV, VWL, AKV

OKW and AKV are the best price with BWV standard rooms.

Honestly I would not choose any of the Downtown Disney Hotels because you don't get the experience you get when staying at an official WDW Resort Hotel. You do not get to experience EMH, (expect at the Hilton, however that is the only WDW Resort perk they get) Disney's Magical Express, the bus transportation to the parks is not the same, purchasing the Disney Dinning Plan and you don't get that WDW feel that you do at the other Resorts. If you don't like the Moderate Resorts, maybe you should try a Value Resort because I think think their rates are better. That's if you don't want to try a Deluxe or DVC Resort.

If you do not want the dining plan or magical express, the Swan and Dolphin are a good choice, deluxe in a great location for a moderate price. Another idea is to check into renting points from a DVC member. We are doing this in May, renting a studio for 5 nights at Beach Club Villas. The rate comes to less than a moderate per night. Weekend nights are not such a good deal with DVC, we transfer to another onsite hotel, either mod with AP or AAA discount or Swan/Dolphin with the educational discount.

Like previous posters have stated; it all depends on of you plan to use ME, the DDP or take a dvantage of EMH.
My family usually has to travel during the summer and we avoid EMH. With that being said; the hotel I would recommend would be the Best Western LBV. If you request a room with a Disney view I think you would really enjoy the balcony.
You should be able to get a room with two queen-sized beds for just a little over $100/night with a AAA discount.:thumbsup2
Hope this helps.

If you have a car and don't want to use EMH or the dining plan, yes, I would stay at a DTD hotel. The price of the mods have really gone up, no more $75 a night rates and I really don't think they are worth the price they charge.

If you want close to the area with lots of extra room for a bargain price, try Crypress Point on hotelkingdom. You can get a condo for the price of a mod and its just right down the road from DTD.
