Best DLR Souvenirs for Kids?

DS is an odd one b/c he plays with things forever. OK, well, he's 5 and he will still happily play with his baby toys, if that gives you an indication. He doesn't touch everything he has inside of a week, but give him a couple months and he'll play with everything.

The most playable so far are the cheapie light sabers. Half were purchased for much less at Target, but the other two are from the Star Tours store when we realized hubby and I had as much to do with him losing his enormous "build your own" lightsaber as he did (if not more).

I know that I love his Mickey-themed (not Mickey base, but just a small theme) blue, light up, makes sounds, with-belt-clip light saber ($12 at Star Traders). It's Disney, it's Star Wars, it's awesome.

We have been very careful with ages and age recommendations on things, so his 5th birthday trip meant he could get a few things he's had his eyes on for *at least* a year. The Rebel Alliance Blaster is one, and the bigger Buzz blaster is the other. I don't know why the Buzz one is for 5 and up, but it is, and so we've waited, and that has been much beloved by him so far.

But the cheapie, playable, light sabers so far are the MOST played with.

He does love pins, but I'm going to call a halt to wearing them all on lanyards...that goes for me as well. I've got to find a display that makes me happy, so we can look at them at home, and just wear a select few on lanyards. Even hubby has stopped trading now; each of his pins has special meaning to him, so we don't *need* to wear them at the parks.

So those are DS's (and ours).

thanks! DS4 is an absolute Star Wars fanatic. FA-NA-TIC. he already has a light saber that makes sounds and everything, although i must admit, he doesn't play with it much. we didn't get it at DLR, it was a christmas present.

anyhoo, i think the Star Wars shop is a great place to take him into, though! especially if we can find something that is, like you said, Star Wars AND Disney.

i'm writing all of these suggestions down in my vacation planning folder, lol...

DS5 really loves the cars (a bit bigger than Hot Wheels size) shaped like characters--$5 each. He started collecting them a couple years ago--at that time we only noticed the Star Wars choices, but now it seems like there are a few new ones every time we go.
There's a really cute Indiana Jones Mickey action figure that comes with a little whip, pack, and tiny Mickey golden idol--$8.

it's clear to me now that there are some great new choices for fun souvenirs since the last time we really shopped for any. it shouldn't be tough to find some terrific souvenirs at all. the only thing that might be tough now, is to only pick one or two per kid, lol!

the Indy themed mickey sounds really fun!

My kids bought the small pin trading books to replace their lanyards which they hated wearing. These have gotten a lot of use and they can wear them over their shoulder like a cross body bag.

We did the silhouettes last time and I bought the frames as well. They look fabulous on our family room wall. So glad we got them done. The kids were fascinated by the ladies cutting so quickly!

My son like to collect/hold on to the free map you pick up when you enter. They change a couple of times a year so each time we go back there is a new cover.

My dd used to like to buy one of those coloring packs that have sheets to color, markers, pencils etc. She would work on them on the way home in the car. But alas, she's gotten to old to want to color much.

DD has been collecting charms for her charm bracelet each time we go.

Now that my kids are getting older its harder for them to find souvies that they want. They are out of the toy stage and clothes are still boring to them so it's usually cd's or dvds, books, or jewelry.

DS had such a hard time last time spending his money.

DD ended up spending only $4 for a new charm! She brought home an entire $25 gift card that she didn't spend.

more great ideas! thanks, everybody!

i'm thinking the park map and LGM bucket might be huge hits with our kids, too. one of our DS4's previous souvenirs was the buzz lightyear blaster gun, which he loves still.

What's an LGM bucket?

You know, I don't remember ... but I do know they have them at those small shops right at the gate.

You could wallpaper a whole room with these if you wanted to! (always thought that would be cool.)

Also, I tried to get the DCA one last visit ... couldn't find one at any of the shops near the Golden Gate bridge / entrance area. I did get one opening year in the Hollywood area though.

Thanks! I will make sure to grab one on our next trip. :thumbsup2

I may be waaaayyy off on this, but I think it's Little Green Men (from Toy Story). I believe I read that you can get a bucket full of them at the store near Toy Story Mania?

Mugglemama please correct me if I am wrong!

yep, Little Green Men is what i was taking LGM to mean, too!

I have two daughters ages 7 and 9, and their favorite souvineers are those plush "baby" versions of Disney characters. They all come wrapped in a blankie, they are pretty adorable. They also have a line of clothes for these. My daughters have baby Pluto, baby Mickey, baby Pooh, and baby Marie I think. They are on the pricey side though for their size, I think around $20! They have always bought them with their own money they have saved, they have so many stuffed animals now I refuse to support their habit anymore, LOL! But my kids are really into playing with their dolls and stuffies so these get a lot of use.
