We are planning a trip for Mardi Gras next year (Feb. 2008). We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 young kids ages 7, 6 and 4 at the time of the trip). In your opinion, what is the best resort for a family of that size?

It depends on what you like as far as resorts. POR is a popular one, I'd more go for the FW cabins.

The Polynesian is a great resort! My kids love it!

Oh - I agree! I had just answered a question recently about a party of 6, that was where my mind was. The Polynesian is nice, that is one of my favorite deluxes.

But I do like FW for the campfire movies, the wagon rides, and all the things to do around the resort as well (and the fully equipped kitchen).

We had that many last year at the Contemporary...Plenty of room...I would highly suggest it!

The monorail resorts (Poly, GF, Contemporary) are the best for your ages. Also, as others have noted, rooms are quite a bit larger at these resorts than at the other deluxes, and you'll need that extra space with 5.

We're doing our second Poly stay in about 3 weeks because that was just such a great experience for us. The theming is fun for kids, and the location is great. The pool is also nice. Dining options are great too.

I would take a deluxe probably one in the MK area
the rooms are larger and they fit 5

With your children at the ages that they are, the MK seems to be a high priority. I would go with the Polynesian. It worked for us when the kids were younger and you can't beat the location.
