We are going on the 7 day Western cruise on Jan 17th 2004 and will be arriving in Orlando 2 days early. We will not be going to any of the parks but, would like to start feeling the Disney magic by staying at one of the resorts. Which one would you suggest that a family of Dad, Mom, Grandma, Son 13, Daughter 12, Son 9 and Daughter 7 would enjoy the most. We have stayed at the Contempory and the Polynesian before.

Thanks,:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

My husband and I always steer people who are not "stuck" on the parks to stay at the Boardwalk area. Your choices are Boardwalk Beachclub Dolphin and Swan

We like the nightlife, we can see Epcot Fireworks without being in a park or having to drive to a park!

Great restaurants, and nightlife for the whole family. Depending on whether, they also have some of the best pools.

Good luck

We spent the two nights before our cruise at the Swan and Dolphin. We did go to Magic Kingdom one day, but we just enjoyed the pools, walked on the Boardwalk and watched the fireworks at Epcot from our balcony. I would highly recommend that. Enjoy your cruise.

How are you getting to the cruise? If you have a car or a car service, you can pick anywhere. If you are going by DCL bus, you should check out which hotels the buses leave from. I believe they do not leave from all the hotels. When we went, there was also another option to go on the bus. We were allowed to go to Animal Kingdom and be picked up there. We were picked up from POR around 12:15.

If your budget allows go for the nicer hotels. However, as nice as POR was and as nice as some of the hotels are, if you want that Disney feeling, the value hotels are great!! We stayed at the Sports one on our first trip. It was kind of crowed but Disney just oozes out all over!!! Have fun!!!

Hello Mickeyfan4444- We will be sailing on that cruise too. There are a few others also. Heres a link to another thread for you to add your names to. www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=337218 and also an unofficial cruise list www.casshew.com/cruisebydate.htm . We too are arriving a day early and going to Universal for the day then were heading for the port and spending the night at the Radisson, as are a few others that are sailing also. Our daughter (DD) is 11 and our son(DS) is 9. Looking forward to your group meeting ours.

You also have the Yacht Club in this Epcot Resort area, as well. We've stayed both Swan and Dolphin pre- and post-cruise and will be staying at the Boardwalk Inn this coming December pre-cruise. The Boardwalk is our favorite area in WDW! There is so much to do just in this small area. You may want to visit the WDW Resort board on the DIS for tons of useful information.

Another vote for the boardwalk hotels! We just took our first trip to WDW and our first cruise in May. We stayed at the Beach Club Resort. We absolutely loved the boardwalk area! It is very charming and the proximity to great restaurants can't be beat!

Have fun!

There are so many benefits to this location: plethora of restaurants, walking distance to MGM Studios & Epcot, Fantasia Gardens, Boardwalk Entertainment, Stormalong Bay (for Beach Club guests), beautiful grounds, gorgeous resorts, etc. I can go on! This is our favorite location and are determined to test out each resort here!

Also, if you are work in Military, Education, Medical, Government, you can get unbelievable discounts at the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. In many cases, the price is LESS than the cost of a Moderate Resort for this Deluxe Resort.

If you arent doing the parks try Vero beach Disney its closer and you still get the Magical feel of Disney.
