We're contemplating a 3 day visit to Universal in May. Looking to stay at the Hard Rock. What's the best way to get the a good deal for this hotel?

I just booked for May using Priceline- was cheaper than stay more save more. Am waiting to see if can get AP discount, if so, will get myself an AP and cancel other reservation.

Is there a penalty to cancel with Priceline?

i'm interested in the answer also.
thought that third party bookings had penalties for cancellations or major changes.

was priceline better for room rate than the smsm promo?

Yes, or my dates all they had was garden view for 266, but SMSM was 79 for standard view.

Not if you cancel in advance- was either 7 or 10 days. Good luck!

Here is what ,y reservation said about cancellation:
" For the room type you've selected, you can cancel your reservation for a full refund up until noon on Monday, May 6th (local hotel time).
" If you decide to cancel your reservation anytime between noon on Monday, May 6th and noon on Saturday, May 11th (local hotel time), the hotel requires payment for the first night's stay. You will be charged for the first night's stay including taxes and fees. Any remaining amount will be refunded to you.
" Refunds or cancellations are not available after noon local hotel time on your day of arrival (Saturday, May 11th).

My reservation was standard, not "name your price"- they may have different cancellation policy. Checking in on 5/11, so looks like 5-6 days before can cancel with no penalty. They also cannot just give you any available room- called US and asked, if you book 2 queen garden view with Priceline that's what you get, as she said Priceline "pre buys" rooms, so they may have availability when US says they don't. Hope this helps someone!

One thing I forgot- Which is the better deal will depend on length of stay. If you are staying three or fewer days ( I'm just staying three so smsm was only 10% off), Priceline should be cheaper.

I called the hotel direct and was quoted the same price as online - $271 for Saturday, $255 Sun-Tue. I ended up booking through Dreams Unlimited for a package that include the 3 day park hopper passes. Came out to about $15 more than if I booked separately and bought the tickets through Ticketmania but it was one stop shopping and I've used DU before for Disney trips and they've always been helpful.
