I am writing for my sister who has a special needs child. Due to that she doesn't have much time to research so I am helping out. They want to take a group of 5 to WDW. Budget is a factor. They want to stay onsite. She is looking at the Pop's family suite. They would like to go for 1 week. What is the best deals running right now for her? We went last year so I am not really up on what the deals are for 2010. Also any comments on the Pop suite? Appreciate the help

The family suite is at All Star Music, not pop. She could actually book 2 value rooms cheaper than a suite, but with a SN child, I can understand wanting more access to the 2nd room. A room at Port Orleans Riverside will accomdate 5, and is cheaper than the suites, but not by too much.

I have not stayed in the suites, but I have stayed at ASM. It was ok. I'm probably a bit jaded because we were in the very back of the resort, and it took 15 minutes to get to the busses and food court.

Hello fellow Houstonian!!

Pop doesn't have a suite, All Star Music does.

It is great, we love it. Right now there are some room only rates out there, which you can add tickets & dining to to make it a package. The suites are more expensive than 2 rooms at the values, but you get preferred location, a microwave & a fridge which can really help.

Let me know if they have certain dates in mind, and I can run some numbers and see what might be the cheapest option for them. The Ft Wilderness Cabins also sleep 6, and POR sleeps 5... but it depends on size of kids & such. If special needs is wheel chair, then I'm not sure the cabins would work.

Oh, the deals. I forgot. I think the specials out right now are pretty good. If you check the specials on the link at the right hand side of the Disneyworld page (where the page folds away), you can see what they are.

Hi, I too have a sp. nds. child. She is in a wheelchair.

The cabins are WC ac. we stayed in 2007!!!!:goodvibes

Thanks for letting me know this! I wasn't sure, as the pics I've seen have all been of the deck in the front with the steps leading up to it.

If it's their first trip, and with special needs, definitely I do agree staying onsite will be more special and convenient.

If you have a date range and budget, it's helpful. Also, do they have a wheelchair, dietary needs, etc... Disney is so great to help folks with all sorts of needs. They may enjoy the monorail resorts, especially the CR (although it's not my favorite) due to the monorail being right there (less walking, like at the GF you do have to walk unless you're in the main building and I've never afforded that). The rooms are big and can fit 5, but I don't know about the accessible rooms.

Also, check out the disabilities board.

I think I'd at least look for deals on a monorail resort, or at the Boardwalk area (YC/BC/BW or Swan and Dolphin). That cuts down on the bus transport. From the Boardwalk area, you could feasibly only need a bus for DAK, as you can transfer from one monorail from Epcot to MK. It's a lot of walking, but less bus riding.

For dietary needs, Disney is the best! DS has severe food allergies (plus ADHD and asthma) and Disney is my favorite place to take him!

Giving us the dates they are wanting to travel will help figure out which deal applies to them.
