Hey all!

We have eaten TS the last few DHS trips and need a CS this time around.

Any recommendations for CS lunch places in DHS would be greatly appreciated!

TIA!

Our favorite CS in DHS is Starring Rolls. I believe they serve lunch but aren't open for dinner. The sandwiches are amazing, and rather big. We used our CS point here and had sandwiches, drinks, and amazing desserts! We were full and happy until our dinner at 1900 that night. I don't think that there is any inside seating but the outside area is covered with umbrellas so you can enjoy in the shade if you time it just right. Enjoy!!

Yeah starring roles is really about the only decent CS food in HS IMO.

The only issue is you have to get there early, they only have a limited amount of each item and when it's gone it's gone. IMO this is a really good sign for any restaurant.
The do not have a lot of choice, turkey or black forest ham stacked high on artisan bread.
Decent coffee and nice cupcakes.

I usually go here for a late breakfast\early lunch so I can be sure to get what I want.
There is also not a lot of seating.

A lot of people like pizza planet, but I'm not a huge fan.
Its better then most of the things that pass for pizza these days.

Avoid the commissary. It used to be really good, but has gone way down hill.

Pizza Planet is pretty good, but it is SO crowded I just don't have to patience for it anymore. And of course it's the one place my kids want to go back to. I'm pretty sure the last time we'd have been better off having a table service meal somewhere, it would've been faster!

Totally agree on DHS lacking in the CS department, we usually end up at Backlot Express, which isn't anything to write home about.

Never realized that Starring Roll's had sandwiches for lunch, we may have to give that a shot this trip!

I agree with Staring Rolls and Backlot Express.

Here is a picture of my latte and white chocolate cupcake from Staring Rolls. That was the best cupcake I have ever had!

One warning do not even try to eat that green Mickey thing on top.
It is like plastic and tasteless. Not sure what the deal is with it.
The cupcake is good. Wish they made a Dark Chocolate one.

I can't imagine the green thing would be great for your teeth either. :rotfl:

I'm so glad to hear that positive report. I ate a snack there last month (a Butterfinger cupcake). It was delicious! I saw some sandwiches-they looked really good. I was wondering-how's the seating availability at mealtime? It looked like a pretty small eating area. I went during the parade, and pretty much had the place to myself.

We have never tried Staring Rolls but my DW said she wanted to try it on the next trip. I did'nt know they had sandwiches either until our last trip we walked in and looked around, but we had just eaten and did not try anything. I would also vote for Pizza Planet over everything else I have tried at DHS.

We really love Starring Rolls...and in addition to all the baked goods there is a case-full of cold dessert delights...we had tirimisu, banana split, and key lime .The sandwich choices were turkey or ham...we liked both. Full review is post 112 on my September 2009 review if you want to read more. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2255028&page=8

We've eaten at Pizza Planet...it's good (not gourmet Chicago style pizza by any stretch of the imagination, lol.) We really liked getting a side salad with the pizza meal...very nice for fast food.

The seating area is small but we've always lucked out with our timing - we've been there around 11:30 and also after 12 noon with no problem getting a table. One thing about Starring Rolls - it can look ridiculously busy when it's not. The shop is so small there can be a long line coming out the door when it's really only a few families in line.

Remember, it's only serving sandwiches at lunch time, and once the sandwiches are gone, that's all she wrote. The shop often closes by 4:00 p.m. too. We've never found it open in the evening at all, even during summer when park hours are longer.

I see in your signature that you are going on the podcast cruise 2.0. Are you going to be at DAP in December?

We tried Starring Rolls for the first time this past Saturday. What a great CS option!

It's probably because it is a fairly slow time of year, but we arrived at 12:15 and there was only a short line (about 3 people). We also had no trouble at all getting one of the outdoor tables. They have umbrellas and are very nice.

The sandwich options were turkey, ham, or a veggie pita. For 1 CS credit we could get a sandwich, piece of whole fruit or bag of chips, a large soda and any dessert from the case or a muffin or cookie from the self serve area. The sandwiches are smaller than the similar sandwiches at Sunshine Seasons (which I love), but are good. We (2 adult guys) split a CS meal with a turkey sandwich (fresh bread and really thick slices of cheese), chips and a marble cupcake. I then bought a butterfinger cupcake oop too. Well, we ended up taking the butterfinger one back to the room and at least half of it ended up in the trash. It was sooooooooo good (they both were, but butterfinger was best), but we were stuffed after 4 days of free dining!

Starring Rolls was our favorite CS this trip :thumbsup2

Unfortunately we are there the week before DAP, made plans before we found out about DAP.

That's too bad. I guess maybe I'll see you on the cruise. Can you believe they have 700 people booked on the cruise already? The first cruise was only 250 people.

:disrocks: Thank you all!! I never would have realized Starring Rolls served lunch!! And I read a lot of Dining reports, look at a lot of food porn! :thumbsup2 I thought Starring Rolls was just a place for sweets!

Thanks to you all, Starring Rolls menu has been added to the possibilities and budgeted into our CS v. OOP spreadsheet!

Any other suggestions, I'd still be glad to hear as we're going to be eating DHS CS two different days. I am really not a huge fan of Backlot Express, or Pizza Planet, at least not in theory. Has anyone eaten at Fairfax Fare?

We like Pizza Planet and the Backlot Express..probably Pizza Planet more.
