O.K. This might seem silly, but I havehad the WORST experiences in MCO picking up our rental cars. I always used Budget, but can get a comparable rate on our upcoming trip from Thrifty, dollar and Hertz. Is there one thats less painful?

We rent from Hertz and joined their Gold Club (free). After your first rental with them (stopping at the counter make sure they have all your information, license, CC, etc.) we use our Gold account to rent and skip the counter and go straight to the lot and pick our car from their specified Gold Row. We usually rent/pay for a Full-Sized Car and end up grabbing an SUV of some sort. We have never had to stop at the counter again.

Of the ones you listed, Hertz. Even if you don't skip the counter, the fact that most people can means you have fewer people to wait behind.

Just don't use Dollar! They have done the whole "bait and switch" thing about insurance, refusing to let people rent without taking the insurance, even when it's not needed. But what are you gonna do at 10pm when you'd have to pay full price at any other location if you walk away from Dollar? (solution- have a back-up reservation)

Did you sign up for the Fastbreak from budget where you go directly over to the garage and grab your vehicle, thus eliminating the counter? When we made that switch it made a world of difference. I use Budget when I get the best deals.

I always rent with Avis and never had any issues. Their 'skip the line' club like many other rental companies means you never have to wait in any lines, no haggling with the clerk about needless/pricey options and go directly to your car.

This. Happened to my husband when he was picking up our rental car while I was in the other terminal grabbing our VTP tag. Guy at the desk insisted DH had to pick 1 of 2 insurance options, and since I'm usually the one that handles the rental car counter, DH didn't fight him hard enough on it as our credit card covers rental cars. Insurance was more than the rental fee.

THIS! We are able to skip the counter every time with Budget now since we have rented from them before.
