My DS19 is moving to his first apartment and wants me to write down the recipe for "everything I cook". Does anyone have a suggestion for a simple, basic cookbook for a new, male cook?

There's a "cooking for one" book out there that I loved when I first moved out since I was always just cooking for me.

A can, a man, and a plan (I am pretty sure that is the title!)

(I don't have this one, but my MIL keeps it on hand for last minute meals in a hurry)

Honestly, I get TONS of use out of the 'freebie' recipe pamphlets that I get online (i.e, the Beef council, Campbells, pork producers, etc.) Most anything can be found online and most of the recipes are simple, hearty and have 'standard' ingredients. Check out the cans in your cupboard--I'll bet every one has a website!

How to Cook Everything

Really though, it's not a waste of time book and it really does give you a place to start from to cook anything. I still use it all time time, and I've been enjoying cooking since I was 12.

I would go for the Traditional Betty Crocker book that is spiral bound, I taught bith my kids how to cook. That one covers the most basics and some interesting things.

Desperation Dinners

Quick, filling meals, soups sides even dessert. I have a great potato soup recipe my family loves from this book

I always buy the "4 ingredient cookbook" for my friends that can't cook - it builds confidence.
