My husband has a nice Canon Rebel T5i and a friend of ours loves his Coolpix, but they are too bulky for park touring for us. Any recommendations for something more compact that can take great Disney landscape pics with a zoom option for birding as well?

Once you're throwing in a long lens for birding, any decent camera will be just as bulky or bulkier than the Canon Rebel.
You can look at cameras like the Canon SX series -- you get a long lens in a compact package. If the birds are entirely stationary in bright light, and you're not enlarging the prints, it can do fine.

I agree with the Canon SX cameras recommendation but if you want to spend some more money go for the Canon PowerShot line. Fewer MP for enlarging but even the older ones like my Canon G12 are great cameras. I still carry it when I don't want the weight but I want raw format capability and good low light shooting capability. My first real digital camera was a G5 and I kept on moving up the line over the years.

Panasonic SZ 70 is one. About the size of an iphone and 30 x zoom (24 - 720 mm)
