best children's furniture?

My youngest is going to need a real bedroom set sometime in the next few months. I need to find good quality furniture-something that can hold up for many years-but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Does anybody have a brand they've had good luck with?

I purchased my daughter a bedroom set from Rooms to go online. It is a very beautiful well made set. I went to the store and was told that the set I chose online was discontinued but when I got home and called they said it was an online only item. That worked for me they shipped it and set it up. The prices on some sets on their site are better than the sets in the stores. We have had it for 6 months now and are very happy with the quality. I know she will get years of use. The selling point for me is that they offer no interest financing for 3 or 4 years, I can not remember exactly. I can pay very little per month and still have it paid off with no interest.

My first daughter we went cheap on her furniture and it has not held up. My second daughter we purchased her bedroom set from bassetts furniture and it was excellent quality and has held up well. It was pricer then my first daughters set but won't have to be replaced.

Our 15 year old is still using the dressers and nightstand her grandparents gave us at her baby shower. The only thing we've purchased is her bed. The furniture is by Basset, we bought it in a cherry finish. Excellent quality, great value. I do wish I had bought an additional nightstand. I just didn't think of it at the time. Her crib is wrapped, boxed and stored.

We bought DD a ragazzi dresser w/her crib and they shut down a year later, name was sold and nothing matches from the new company . Was clueless when it was time to get a bed and other pieces.

from oak designs we got a birch bed to match the light maple color, and nightstand and dresser mirror nearly identical to the ragazzi dresser. the drawer front from a different line matched the existing dresser perfectly, they only charged us $25 to customize the nightstand and you can't tell it is a different brand from her existing furniture.

very, very happy with quality and locally made! we did price around and found a huge price difference in retailers.

we did the simple arc bed, no ball spindles or footboard, but still finished wood at the foot like the sides (saved a bunch w/o full footboard).

When my DD was ready for a set we looked everywhere. We ended up ordering from jcp.com. We have been totally blown away by the quality. It is really nice furniture and it was relatively inexpensive. Good luck. I know how much of a headache we had while looking.

We have purchased two youth sets of furniture from Rooms to Go Kids. The first was a cabin bed with built in desk. I ordered it online and it was solid quality, held up well, my son just outgrew it and we sold it to some neighbors. The second set we purchased in store and it has been total junk. I would not purchase from them again. Their customer service is not very good either, they have a reputation of poor customer service.

We bought BarnDoor Furniture for our two very active, rambunctious boys. And it lasted!! DS#2, now 24, is still using the book shelves and the dresser. It survived several moves and a lot of hard use.

Agreed. Great quality, but not real cheap. Best of all - made in the USA.

Huge fan of Flexa. Expensive but holds up forever and modular so the furniture can change as needed. Great for small room also. My son has the loft bed and a regular twin mattress fits perfect.

We've liked Bassett, Broyhill and Haverty's for children's furniture. They've all held up really nice and moderately priced.

We bought Flexa furniture for DS's room 8 years ago. You can change it as the child grows so it will last into their teens. It's not cheap, but great quality.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've been haunting craigslist (that's where we got other DD's set from) but haven't found anything yet. I saw a gorgeous Disney bed at jcp.com, but I once bought barstools from there that turned out to be the biggest piece of junk, so I'm really leery of ordering from them (and it's not available in a store around here). I'll check out some of the places you guys have mentioned

Well, we are on the other end of the spectrum I guess. My dd has Ikea furniture and we have not had any problems with it. Seems to work great and has held up. She is pretty rough on her stuff, so we decided to go cheap and then replace it later when she's older. At this rate, she will just keep the Ikea furniture! LOL
