Best/cheapest way to spend summer near Disney?

My wife and I are teachers. Although we own 210 DVC points, what we would really like to do is spend weeks, even months, in Disney from time to time (when school is out). I don't have the money to buy enough DVC points to do that, but I thought that maybe there were off-site places where an extended stay wouldn't break the bank. This evening, someone sitting at my table at a wedding told me that he stayed in a 5 bedroom home last year for only $1,000 for the week. That sounded like a great price for the size, and considering I am looking for something that is 2 bedrooms (2 adults, 2 children), I thought I could possibly even do better on the price. The guy said that he was under the impression that the snow birds rent out Disney area condos/homes very cheap during the "hot" months.

Any thoughts?

Sure...for starters go to www.lastminutevillas.com and send a mass email to all owners looking for a two or 3 bedroom condo or home...tell them your budget is about $1200/month to include all utilities. These are fully furnished places and if you plan ahead for next summer I would bet several of the owners would like have a guaranteed 2-3 month rental next year with the cost of gas and tourism slowing...Summer is a "high season" but again all you need is one taker...there are lots of bargains out there to be had...

This is one way, the other is to go to site like www.vrbo.com or www.vacationrentals.com and email individual owners about your idea...It worked for us!

Good Luck...Ted
