Best cheap hotel on Harbor?

We are going to Disneyland in September with family from overseas who are on a very very very tight budget.

We want to be within walking distance on Harbor and spend as little as possible, but I don't want to stay in a total dump. A good pool is important too because the weather should be great and there are kids who will want to swim every afternoon.

What is our best option?

The super I8 motel is around 59.00 a night. Weekends could be more. What dates in sept?

I pay about $55/night at Super 8 on Katella. It's a short walk to Harbor (you go by like 2 more hotels, and then you are on Harbor), and then maybe 10 more minutes up to the security area.

As far as amenities, it's not super fancy, but it does well enough for our family! The beds are comfy. The rooms are clean (we wore our socks to test it, and didn't end up with dirty sock bottoms). The water for showers can be annoying (take a shower the evening before, if you can!). They aren't the most noise-proof, but I've been in worse :) DD (age 8) and I stayed in a 2 queen room and found it perfectly adequate for what we needed--a place to sleep and shower! They do have a basic breakfast (donuts, cereal, juice) until 9am.

We didn't do the pool, but saw plenty of other people enjoying it!

On a 1-10 (10 being best) scale, I'd rate it at a 6-7. I've been to much worse, and I've been to much better. But, for less than $60/night, you can't go wrong!

I enjoy Hojo for the fact its fairly close that you can walk, the pool area is amazing, and its clean and friendly. You can often get discounted rates there as well. However I have also stayed at the Carousel Inn & Suites right across from the main gate to Disneyland. It is a 5 minute walk to the turnstiles, and I find the beds to be comfortable and the rooms very clean. I think it maybe worth looking into. I have seen plenty of advertisements on cheap rates for this year. Plus the Carousel has a cool private rooftop pool.

It may be a tad further, but I like staying at Anaheim Quality Inn and Suites. It's on Manchester, so a little further walk, but I think the breakfast would beat the one at Super 8. They have a waffle maker and hard boiled eggs in addition to the standard fruit, bagels, toast, juice, cereal, danishes, etc. Desert Inn and Suites on Harbor is better if you're bringing more people. We had 6 people, 2 queen beds, 1 sofa bed. However, they really have the REALLY basic breakfast: toast, cereal, danishes, oranges, juice, and milk. But it's a really quick walk to the park so that would be worth it too.

You 'might' consider the Alpine Inn. Very basic and kinda cheap.

Ditto on HOJO. It is a great value when you can get the entertainment rate. Our kids loved the pool even if it was a bit on the cool side

My family and I always use this website www.getawaytoday.com we booked a 3 * hotel on harbor for 3adults and 1 child for 4 nights that included a free night, all our 3 day park hopper tickets, free parking, free unlimited shuttle service to and from the park for just over $1200. Its a great website.

We've stayed at Hojos and Ramada Inn and I prefer the Ramada Inn. We're paying $89/night. I like that it's closer and that we can park our car *right* outside our hotel door. Also, the continental breakfast goes a long way with us. :thumbsup2

Hojos is as far as I would want to walk without a shuttle. It doesn't seem like a far walk, but at the end of the day with a 5 year old, 6 year old, 7 year old and 70 year old.... it's a long walk! LOL

Staff at both hotels are very nice. That means a lot to us, too.

Everyone will have a different opinion about how cheap is "cheap enough" and how far way is "close enough." You could try TripAdvisor and sort by distance to DL, then bring the map into the area you would be able to walk then sort by price to get a general idea of the lowest price advertised.

Go directly to the hotel websites and call the hotel directly to see if the shown price is the best price for your trip.

Using the maps that pp posted, look at sites previously mentioned like getawaytoday.com ... they have good prices.

Also maybe go to sites like lastminutetravel.com and sort by "destination" then choose 0.5 mile to California Adventure Disneyland. Sort your results by price. Here you need to consider if you are willing to take a mystery hotel and pay ahead for the cheapest. (They will also show some with the name of the hotel, but usually the deal is less expensive with the secret ones.) Be careful though and look for those with Free Parking included, otherwise it will be additional during your stay. Castle Inn is often the least expensive on this site, but I would look into some that previous posters have mentioned because I've heard some good things about those other budget hotels.

Good Luck.

Thanks everyone. I just booked 2 rooms at the Ramada Maingate. Superior rooms, 2 queens, free parking and breakfast for $99/night per room.

Hojo's and Best Western PPI are both sold out on our dates...Sept 16-23.

The Ramada seems to have everything we want...a good pool for kids, free breakfast, free parking and walking distance to the park for a reasonable rate. If anyone has any opinion (good or bad) about the Ramada, I would love to hear. Our reservations can be easily cancelled without penalty. So I can change hotels if something better comes up.

Thanks!

This may not help you now. It just happens a couple days ago on the Ramada Maingate FB page they had a link to a $10 off per night coupon.

Ok, so their deal is:

"When you arrive to the hotel you will want to login to your Facebook Page, use the Check In option on your facebook, find Ramada Maingate - ATP and check in... after you check in a coupon will appear below your check in saying $10 Off per night, you will click on the coupon, and it will bring up an option to claim the coupon. Once you claim the coupon you have 3 hours to show our front desk staff, and if you qualify, we will apply the $10 off per night to your reservation."

:thumbsup2
