I know, this is an oxymoron...but is there a character meal that is quiet and peaceful?

We dislike noise and chaos while we are eating...last time we went, we had lunch at the Garden Grill in Epcot for their character meal, and it was great. Not noisy or crowded at all.

We may do Garden Grill again, but the kids (girl aged 5, boy aged 7) would like to do an additional character meal...any suggestions for one we'll enjoy? How is Chef Mickeys? Any other suggestions?

If it helps, we are going Jan. 5-12, 2008, so I don't anticipate crowds or reservations to be much of an issue.

thanks!

Chef Mickey's is pretty loud but is great.

Definitely avoid Hollywood and Vine - that is really loud and busy.

Maybe CRT if you can get in - I thought it was relatively calm and quiet.

I don't have my unofficial guide with me but if you have one or if someone else does it lists for each of the character meals how loud they are. I cannot remember which ones were listed as quietest. Maybe someone else can help??

If not, I will try to remember to check when I get home.

I've never seen this combination, ever! I think a Character Meal, by definition, will be a mob scene!

IMHO, Chef Mickey's is not a peaceful or quiet character dining and its always extremely busy no matter what time of the year you go, although its great and its a lot of fun for the kids. But, if you would like to do another character meal and ur looking for something peaceful and more quiet, one that we found to be great and not that noisy or full of chaos is Cape May's Character Breakfast over at the Beach Club Resort. Its located by Epcot and its in the area of the Boardwalk. The breakfast there is delicious and DH and I find it to be quieter and more peaceful than the other character meals offered. The meal is buffett style but the food is delicious and the character interaction is great since like I mentioned before it normally doesn't get too busy. The characters are dressed in their swimsuit outfits and its normally Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale, and I think Mickey also.:goodvibes

If you want peace and quiet while you eat, stay away from CM. It is VERY loud and noisy plus during your meal at sometime they make you wave your napkins while the characters run around the room singing, dancing and having a ball. Granted we loved going to CM on our last trip because we don't mind that kind of atmosphere plus it was our first time there. But if you are looking for quiet while having character interaction, I would suggest LTT in the MK. This is our favorite restaurant in MK and always make an ADR when going. The food comes out family style and there is really great character interaction. There is no screaming, loud kids and no nonsense, it is great place to just sit down and have a wonderful meal while being able to talk to your family.

I second the LTT vote. Our meals there always seemed very calm, relaxing and dignified if that's possible with the characters. It is not at all the party atmosphere of CM or CP.

I'd try Liberty Tree Tavern, or any other meal that isn't a buffet. Part of what is so hectic about places like CM's is that you and your family are constantly up and down getting food. And if the kids can't go through the line by themselves, you have to get up when they get up, too. At least with table service you get to sit and rest. And at LTT, there are no "choices" to make, so it is even more relaxing.

We have done both these and love them. Chef Mickey is definately loud, noisy and crowded. The Cape May breakfast is very good - large amount of food and a wide selection of food. LTT for dinner is also great. We love the "Thanksgiving" theming and they bring the food to you - no getting up to get it.

We have also done lunch at Crystal Palace (Pooh Characters). First time (last November) there was alot of interaction with the characters and there was a parade of characters about every 20 minutes or so. We were there this past July and the characters still made their rounds but no parade. Not sure if this is something they don't do anymore or if was not being done while we were there. We love the food in this place (we have only done lunch there - not breakfast or dinner).

We are planning on all three of these places on our next trip - November of this year.

We did an early breakfast at Crystal Palace and it wasn't too bad noise wise.

The 07 Unofficial Guide to WDW rates the noise level of 11 on property character meals. Here is their ratings

Very Quiet - Garden Grill
Quiet - CRT and Akershus
Moderate - 1900 Park Fare, LTT, Cape May, Ohana, Hollywood and Vine (I don't agree with that one)
Loud - CM
Very Loud - CP and Restaurantosaurus

Good luck!

You right - "quiet character meal" is an oxymoron. I would, however, recommend Cape May. If you go early before it gets too crowded (and it never gets as crowded as some of the other, more popular character meals), it should be relatively quiet.

We ate there on our last trip, and it was the most quiet out of the four character meals we did. If I remember right, they have a few different eating areas instead of everyone in one big room (like at Crystal Palace). At LTT, we were seated in a small room that only had 5-6 tables in it. It was so calm and quiet that I felt a bit guilty that maybe my pre-schoolers were being too noisy.;) . They're pretty good when we eat out but sometimes talk loud.

We really liked our meal at LTT--the food was good, and the whole atmosphere was really neat. In fact, I've been thinking about trying to get an ADR here for our next trip, and cancelling the one we have at Sci-fi!

So glad we decided on the Cape May Breakfast:)
Most posts here reiterated other comments I have read...want to introduce DD to characters....trying not to overwhelm her at the same time (will be 14 mths) Besides, it will be right next door!

Good luck in your ADR decisions!!!

Cape May is very quiet-- especially if you early in the AM at opening.

Garden Grill is the quietest. The way the seating is arranged you don't see other diners at all.

The semi-circle booths overlook the "Living with the Land" ride and face out. The whole restaurant slowy rotates so that you can see scenes from the ride.

The characters (Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale) come to your table one at a time.

And the food is yummy!:thumbsup2

Cape May breakfast, we have been there twice and the place has not been busy either time. The characters spend alot of time with you and visit with you multiple times and the food is awesome

Another vote for Cape May. And it's pretty quiet later, as well as early. I've eaten at 10:00 and 10:30, and it wasn't loud either time.
