I have a friend going over MLK weekend without any ressies :scared1:
I told her I would help her out, BUT DH & I usually don't do character dining......HELP!!! Thanks :goodvibes

I wouldn't expect any character dining to be available for MLK weekend at this point. I'd say they should call and take whatever they can get.

If there's availablitity, we've only done the breakfast at Ohana and it was pretty good. Crystal Palace gets also gets good reviews. I've seen mixed reviews on the food but good reviews on the character interaction for Chef Mickey's and 1900 Park Fare. I've also seen good reviews for Tusker House at Animal Kingdom. It also depends on what characters they want to see since the characters vary quite a bit across the different meals. Like the previous poster said, there probably isn't going to be a lot of availability, but I hope they find something they like. :)

I would suggest signing-up for the Jan. cancellations thread so you can see if anyone cancels.
We (2 adults) have only done 2 character meals: 1900 dinner (nice experience) AND CRT lunch and dinner several times.
Several times we have walked-up to CRT at LUNCH and got a table for 2. If they don't get any ressies before they leave they might give that a try.

We have been to Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace. Love both. The whole family thought the food & atmosphere are excellent.

At this point they or you aught to go onto the Disney site and see what is available and at what meals. I did a quick search for 1/16 at 8AM and got some openings just to see if there was hope. There were still quite a few openings.

From the openings I saw, I will say that breakfast at 1900 PF is good if they don't mind eating on the monorail loop instead of eating in a park. Also, the princess breakfast at Akershus is available. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our lunch there. The princesses spent time talking with us which was nice... we find that at places like CP the characters tend to walk right past us only stopping for a picture if we go out of our way to stop them (not always, but it happens enough for us to take notice).

I would be concerned going without reservations, but the best character dining for adults is in Cinderella's Castle. It is pretty romantic. It is where I proposed to my 1st wife, the marriage did not work out, but the proposal was great and they did a great job arrange everything.

Personally we love CP and CM (just DH and I). But it may be late in the game to get them for dinner. Maybe they can get a lunch or breakfast.

I would say CP in MK or GG in Epcot. If LTT was still a character meal, I would have picked that one.:guilty: Good luck and I hope they get an ADR.:goodvibes

I've done Crystal Palace and O'hana breakfasts. I prefer CP because it has a big variety of foods [it's a buffet] and I like the Winnie the Pooh characters. I am 26 and did this with my mom last year and we both had a great time and still took pics with the characters! O'hana is nice, but it's very basic food: eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, biscuits, fruit, and bread brought out to your table.

I would suggest the Garden Grill in Epcot or 1900 Park Fare, both of them for dinner. It is nice to sit down after a long day of being on your feet at Disney. While I think the food is better at Park Fare, it is a buffet, and all the buffet madness can detract from the experience.

In both cases, we have had good character interaction even when we were without children. I really miss Liberty Tree Tavern as a character dining spot. Oh, how I loved being brought my meal and then being visited by colonial Minnie Mouse.

DH and I (both in our 40's, no kids) have done CM, Ohana, CP and CMC. Loved 'em all, but Cape May Cafe breakfast is our fave.

DH says Tusker House breakfast and I vote for Chef Mickey breakfast. My second favorite is Crystal Palace, but DH doesn't like that one at all.

Ohana Breakfast at the Poly, 1900 Park Fare and Grand Floridian,
Crystal Palace at magic Kingdom

We are partial to the Cape May breakfast at the Beach Club, but for in park I would say crystal palace.

Garden Grille!! Its in Epcot... It is the quietest charachter restaurant in WDW. The food is great and the charachters are adorable!

DW and I had an absolute blast at the Akershus Princess breakfast. That's our first order of business the next time we go down there (only this time with our own little princess along).

I ditto this. DH and I are in our early 30s like the OP. I absolutely love CP. I think the food is great and so is the character interaction. I was very disappointed in Ohana as an adult. DH and I LOVE Lilo & stitch but the food left much to be desired and they really rushed the characters through. We also did Restaurantasauras about 5 years ago (do they still do that one?) and I was again disappointed. That one was waaaayy two hectic and not set up well. I have yet to do Chef Mickey's or Tusker House.

I know many child-free people do it, but good lord, if I was going without my kids - the last place you'd find me is a character meal!:rotfl2: We've done just about all of them numerous times though.

If characters are what they're after, I'd suck it up, wait in a line for the ones they want and save meal time for a nicer experience someplace without the fur.

Again not to say that a character meal/buffet can't be wonderful or that adults shouldn't do it without kids....just sayin' if I had the chance - Oh the places I would go!:woohoo:
