I know this probably isn't the right place to ask, so move at will. I just couldn't find were to ask. My wife is just starting to learn and doesn't really like to play with people she doesn't know. On our honeymoon a couple years ago she just drove the cart. We played with a couple of insane guys. WAY to serious for me and for the kind of golfers they were. But anyways. Is there a better tee time in August or course besides oak trail that we could play alone? Any help would be GREAT. Thanks :thumbsup2

Play as late in the day as you can maybe if is only 9 holes would be my best reccomendation for getting out alone. You might have to let people play thru then as well. Have a great time.:thumbsup2

Play between about noon and three if one of the main courses as few go out between those times and thus you can go as a twosome. After three starts low twilight rates so you get a semi-crowd hitting the courses then. Of course, in August the heat will be tremendous in the afternoon and you are likely to see a shower or two.

We are in the same boat! We have golfed together in the past, but I am thoroughly a beginner and don't want my DH to miss out on playing the nicer courses at WDW because of it. I am planning on taking a couple of lessons this summer in HHI and playing there and making a point of hitting the driving range HARD before our F&W Golf trip to WDW in late September. I'm hoping the crowds will be lower for us since that's a slower time, but I have to admit, I am a little nervous to be matched up with a couple of "real" golfers who are not as in love with me and my beginning golf abilities as my DH is!:rotfl: Good luck!!

I actually took up golf so I could play with my Dad on our WDW trip last fall. I wasn't a brand new beginner by that time, but I had only been golfing for about 1.5 years. We golfed at the Magnolia at 10:45 on Sunday and Lake Buena Vista at 10:00 on Thursday. My Dad and I were paired up with other people both times. The first was with a gentleman from Holland who was taking a break from an educational conference, and the second was with a lovely older couple from Pennsylvania. I really feel like meeting our fellow golfers enriched our golfing experience. I think that, above all, golf is a social sport. In each case, I explained to them that I was a relative beginner. Chances are, you won't find out if you're paired up with another twosome or solo golfer until you meet them at the starter's booth. The woman I spoke to at WDW Golf told me "you will be paired up with someone." I know they try to fill every position, if possible. With that said, the heat may scare some golfers away in August!

Two things:
1) As much as I appreciated the design and beauty of the Magnolia, I wouldn't recommend it to an inexperienced golfer. Granted, I played it two weeks before the Children's Miracle Network Classic and they were letting the rough get really tall, but I struggled the entire time and was exhausted by the time we left the course. If you always hit the ball on the fairway, I imagine it's a different experience. I... don't. I loved the LBV course, though.
2) The Lake Buena Vista course is currently hosting DVC member golf clinics on Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM for $15 per person. It sounds like an excellent way to warm up and get some affordable instruction before a round!

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I will just call and see what our chances are. We played this afternoon at our course and it felt like Flordia in August. It was crazy but we made it just fine. So maybe the noon idea will work. I don't think she will play more then 9 holes. So I figured I could get done with the other nine in about hour 15 minutes or so and won't take that much time out of our vacation for it. I LOVE the DVC member golf clinics. We will be doing that for her. She already loves the game. She just needs practice.

Good Luck... I've played a few times and we've always been paired up. You're only real hope is to bring a third as we never had a 4th added when we were a threesome. I know that doesn't help. Enjoy your time on the courses!

My DH and DS have golfed a few times by themselves. They have golfed in May, June and January by themselves. Last time DD wanted to go also, usually her and I go shopping. So all four of us went with only three golfing and me riding in the cart (having a Margarita when the beverage cart came by, it was the best time :woohoo: They let the three of them golf, but at first they did have someone solo going with us, but he never showed up.

My DH and DS have found if you don't make reservations and just go to a course you sometimes have a better chance of golfing as a twosome. They also seem to have better luck at LBV, staff seems to be much nicer to deal with and they were always allowed out as a twosome.

Good luck.

My DH and I play the Disney courses often and have only played as a twosome once. Almost always we are paired with delightful people. We have had the pleasure of meeting people from all over the world and many of our returning troops who stay at the Shades of Green.

When I started playing golf, I was scared about my ability and being on the course with better players. My solution was to play from my DH's ball. I would hit a drive, then go to his ball and play from there. I would hit a second shot, pick up my ball and go to his second shot etc. I would always putt out my own ball. All you need to be concerned about is keeping up with the group in front of you.

Most low handicap golfers will play very early. If you go out later in the day you will probably play with higher handicap players.

The first time out with strangers is always the hardest. So my advice is jump in and have a great time.
