Not as concerned with price as we are with the car itself. We have a reservation with Dollar but have read some poor reviews about it. We've used National before too - seemed fine. Any suggestions about favorites and others to avoid? Looking for a rental on site at MCO only. Thanks so much!

I have never been disappointed in any of the cars I've rented through Alamo and we've rented a lot of them. I always try to choose one with low mileage and no dings in the exterior. The interiors have always been clean and smelled good.

Went with alamo, since i can use a debit card with them( I never charge anything--all in cash or dedicated payment). The minivan i got was brand new, only 12 miles on it. As always, the rental process was without incident, and mercifully quick. I spent more time trying to figure out the new ignition key (plastic stick instead of metal key) then it took me to fill out the rental agreement. I always rent at MCO, not one of the satellite lots located nearby. Have no desire to submit myself and family to any aditional delays, even if i save a few dollars.

I did a little searching this morning and aside from our Dollar rental we reserved - I found a pretty good rate for a minivan from National. All said and done with taxes, etc, $950 for a full 2 week rental. That seems reasonable to me. What do you think? We'll be in FL from Feb 17 until March 2. Thanks!

I am using Alamo for the first time in a couple of weeks. Just placed my info in to use the kiosk. I'm using a coupon code, so I guess I can't check-in online.:confused3 The kiosk will do! I'm coming on Fri morning, so I'm hoping for a relatively hassle-free experience.

I've rented a compact, so I guess I will have crank windows? :confused3Wow, didn't even know they were made anymore!

Anyone have any problems at the Orlando airport location? Closest gas station?

Any word on leniency on returns?

My family and I always rent from Avis and have always had positive experiences with them.

We have also rented twice from National, however both times we had issues with them and choose not to rent from them again.

What makes you think you'll have crank windows? :confused3 We've rented compacts before and had power windows; it's just a smaller car. I think it was a Chevy Cobalt but you can choose from many vehicles in your row so that won't be your only choice.

I always allow an extra hour or 2 with the return time just in case we have some type of delay. Not sure how they handle late returns but I'm guessing they'd charge hourly or for another day. I would find out in advance.

National and Alamo have both "adjusted" their car categories and power windows and locks have been removed as a feature in MidSize and smaller. You may get one with that feature, but it is less likely.

What???!!! We go to FL several times per year and never had a car with crank windows. Did this just happen in the last couple of months? We were there in Aug/Sept. and again for a cruise that sailed on Halloween. For that we had a FS but our friends had a midsize and I'm sure I would have heard about it; they travel often as well.

This is one of those things I'd have to see to believe. :sad2:

I agree with you. Have always rented a compact or intermediate/midsize and have never had crank windows. However, I did see one (with crank windows) in the row of cars and eliminated that one along with a couple others that had higher mileage on them. Love being able to choose my car rather than being assigned a car! Sure hope our next car rental in early December has power windows. :confused3

Wow, they're stooping to a new low.
We usually do fine with a midsize and go for the FS if it's not much more but occasionally, I take the kids w/o dh and we get a compact.

I don't think they've ever seen crank windows.

Do they have an 8track tape player too?

We just returned and rented from Avis for the first time. Our compact (Chevy) did not have power windows. Also, a word of warning. We learned from DIS members to collect receipts from tollbooths. However, we filled up before getting to the airport and did not get a receipt. When we dropped off the car, there was a long line and when we arrived at the gate realized we had been overcharged. There was a 50.00 fuel charge added. We called and they apologized, but said we had to take it up with billing on Monday. I called and was told there was nothing we could do without a gas receipt. I plan on fighting this, but learned a lesson. It's a shame you have to go through this.

yes, this is a new thing. We rented from Budget at PC, returning at MCO. They told dh to be sure to save our gas receipt or we would be charged for fuel. I forget what the paper said but this was for rentals with low mileage use. I think under 75 miles or something like that. It did specify.
After leaving the ship, we spent the day at Universal then drove to MCO. We stopped at one of the exits off the Beeline close to MCO. (Orange Blossom Trail) and the Budget employee had the nerve to tell me that is far from the airport. I told him we both know it's not and the time/date on the receipt was less than 20 mins ago. He finally relented. They must think all tourists are idiots.
Budget and Avis are owned by the same company.

My husband rented a car with the Alamo Weekend deal a few months ago. He picked it up on a Thursday at noon and returned it on Saturday at noon. He estimated he drove about 300 miles. When we returned the car, the receipt said 2,813 miles. They finally adjusted it when he asked them to explain how he could have driven that distance in 48 hours.

Stay away from Thrifty!!!! I used to live in Orlando, take my advice, just do not use them. If you do, check your bill carefully and make sure to follow up after your trip to make sure you dont get any damage charges.

They are famous for adding mysterious charges to the bill, extra days, not so "free" upgrades. They add extra insurance even if you decline, they do not tell you it is optional. ANd sometimes after you get home, you get a mysterious charge to your card for a "scratch" on the car or something similar.

If you use them, read your bill carefully and make sure you take "before pics" of the car with your camera and keep them for a bit.

People used to always complain about them. Very shady, or at least they were about 10 years ago when I lived there.
