I am looking for a new camera. We currently own a Sony. While we have been happy with our camera I am getting more frustrated with the shutter speed as our kids get older and move faster. Does anyone have a camera they are very happy with. I am looking for decent zoom and great shutter speed. I am sick of being a second too late on a great shot.
Thanks

I have a sony a230 that Im am insane with right now. I love the fast shutter speeds. Its a DSRL and around $400. I also had a kodak easy share that seemed to do pretty good on moving photos. I take alot of pic's of DC (9,10) and my freinds kids (3,5,10,11) and most come out pretty good.

Yup, the only answer to correct shutter drag is to invest in a digital SLR. There are a lot of options, I would recommend going in to a store, seeing how they feel, then price check online. I'm a professional photog and purchase a lot of stuff from B & H photo out of New York.

Different companies will sometimes offer instant rebates or mail in rebates. If you find a camera that feels good in your hand, go home and do your homework on how much you can really get it for.

I personally own Nikon, I would always hit the switchs on the back of the Canons. Fuji and Sony all make the hobbyist DSLRs and they're all going to have similar megapixels.

Good luck in your hunt!

There are a few point and shoots that allow you to use aperture priority, shutter priority and manual modes. I am a professional photographer, too, and have 5 DSLRs at my disposal, but I am not taking ANY of them on our trip (at least I think, I'm having trouble letting go, lol. You know how it is!). I just purchased a Kodak Easyshare Z1012 IS. It was the top rated camera last year by Consumer Reports. It has a higher grade lens than most point and shoots with a large zoom range, it is wicked tiny compared to my DSLRs, and it shoots in MANUAL mode. Yay!

Now, do I expect this camera to perform like my pro grade DSLRs? No, absolutely not. However, I've played around with it a bit, and I am quite happy with it, and it is more than enough camera for just about anyone but a pro or experienced hobbyist. I believe the Canon G series and the SX20 all get rave reviews and have similar features.

I also second the recommendation for B&H. Love them. :lovestruc

I have the Canon SX20IS and I really like it so far. I wasn't quite ready for a DSLR, so this seems to fit the bill!

We got a Casio EX-FH20 EXILIM last August (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/FH20/FH20A.HTM) and for us it's ideal. Small enough, fantastic zoom, very fast shutter speed and HD movies (also does slow montion video which is fun). It was around $460. It also takes AA batteries which I love, as you can get them anywhere. Example of zoom here:

Boths shots taken from same place, you can see the ships upper right middle of the top picture, 2nd is zoomed all the way in

I have a Nikon D90 (DSLR) and I love it.

DD has a Canon SD1200is which is a nice little camera.
