any chance some of the experts here can give me some advice about using the bus system at WDW?
specifically, i'm wondering what the best route is from ASMu to get to our dinner ADRs at other resorts (especially the monorail resorts like CR and Poly). is it quicker to take the bus to AK and then switch to a resort bus, or take the bus to MK and take the monorail over? if anyone can give me an idea of how long each of these options would take, i would really appreciate it.
TIA.
For the monorail resorts, I would ALWAYS advise that you take the bus to Magic Kingdom.
Once at MK, here are your options for the monorail resorts:
Contemporary
From the MK bus area, it is a slightly shorter walk to walk directly to Contemporary than it is to walk to the MK monorail station and take the monorail to Contemporary. I mapped it one time on a running/jogging website that uses satellite photos ... from the bus area, walking to Contemporary is shorter than walking to the monorail.
Polynesian
From the MK bus area, you can walk to the MK monorail station and take the RESORT monorail to Polynesian ... the monorail lets you off on the second floor of Poly's Great Ceremonial House, which is also the
exact location of both of Poly's table-service restaurants.
You also have a slower but more scenic option, which is to walk to one of the boat docks (the one nearest the MK monorail station) and take a motor launch to Polynesian. It stops at Grand Floridian first, then goes to Poly, and then back to MK.
And just to let you know ALL of your options, you can also take the EXPRESS monorail from the MK station to the Transportation & Ticket Center, OR you can take the ferry from MK to the TTC, and from the TTC you can walk down the path to Polynesian, and then take a 4-5 minute walk through the resort to get to the Great Ceremonial House.
Grand Floridian
From the MK bus area, the very best option is the motor launch (boat) mentioned above. If you take the monorail, it will have to go all the way around the loop to get you from MK to GF, and that could take 20-30 minutes.
Amount of time
As a general rule of thumb, I always figure it'll take up to 1 hour to get somewhere if I have to use two different modes of transportation, since some of that time involves transitioning from one to the other, and then of course waiting for the second one to pick you up.
