When we go to Disney this November, we'll be there over my middle son's 12th birthday. What Disney (or even non-Disney) restaurants make a "big deal" over a birthday? We're planning to do TRex at some point during the trip because all of my boys love dinosaurs, but for his bday I really want to make sure it's as special as possible.

I know it's a long way off, but the planning is (almost) as exciting as the trip, so I like to start early. :)

1) No place does "a big deal" over birthdays.
2) Too many people have birthdays on the same say at WDW.
3) There isn't enough time or manpower to accommodate everyone.
4) However, there are some common traits and some minor extras.

5) Common Restaurant Traits (make sure you wear your birthday button)
. . . servers wish Happy Birthday
. . . you can get a free cupcake, usually with a candle
. . . characters (if character meal) usually point to the button and gesture
. . . characters (if character meal) can sign place mats
6) Extras
. . . HDDR - joint birthday/anniversary wish for all guests
. . . Chef Mickeys - napkin waving for joint celebration
. . . CP - joint wishes for all birthdays
. . . CRT - pixie dust sprinkled on the table

7) If you want to make a special event . . .
. . . order a specialty birthday cake
. . . have Disney Florist put treats and gifts in the room for him (after check-in)
. . . take him to the Disney barber shop in MK
. . . make Wishes Dessert Party ressie
. . . take him to HDDR

NOTE: Based upon the time available and the energy/initiative of the individual Cast Member, they may or may do the above, or they might even go "above and beyond" the above.

Thanks for letting me know how this kind of thing works at the World - we've never been there on the actual date of a personal celebration, so I didn't know. I ran across a post about someone getting a card signed by the "family" at Prime Time, and it started me wondering, but now I get that it was that particular cast member and not the restaurant itself. I'll look into a special cake or something... poor guy, having to spend his bday at WDW. lol
