Best bet for 3 adults, 3 kids?

We are (finally!) planning another trip to the World for this December, and I am trying to decide what resorts we should be considering. We'll have 3 adults (me, DH, and our au pair) and 3 kids (1, 5, and 9). With 6 people, am I correct that my options are:
(1) book 2 standard rooms, adjoining if available
(2) book a cabin at FW (sleeps 6, but does anyone have a link to a floorplan?)
(3) rent points to stay at a DVC 2br villa?

Are there other 2 BR options besides the DVC villas? My preference would be to just have one "unit," so we can all be together. If we have two separate units, it becomes an issue about how to divide our group up between them. (Seems silly to have 5 of us crammed in one room while the au pair has the same sized room to herself, but I don't think I'll want one or more of the kids to be "away" from me in the other room with the au pair.)

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome!

As long as on child is under three (and your 1 year old is!), you can also book any deluxe room for 5. You may want more privacy than that would allow, given that your au pair will be along as well. I note you want one "unit", however. If that's the case, and you don't mind being in the same room with your au pair, you might consider one room at the Contemporary. There are two queen beds and a adult-size day bed. The baby would be in a pak and play. The Contemporary rooms are quite roomy and have a balcony as well. Also, it's an easy walk or monorail ride to Magic Kingdom, where you'll probably be spending a good deal of time, given your children's ages.

There are two bedroom suites but they are pricey. There are deluxe rooms at the Boardwalk that sleep six. There are junior suites at Wilderness Lodge and at the Contemporary that may meet your needs as well. Perhaps someone who has stayed in a junion suite will post information about those for you.

If you wanted to stay in one room, you could choose almost any deluxe. With the exception of the WL and AKL, they all accommodate 5 + 1 under the age of 3. In terms of square footage, I believe that the CR has the largest rooms. You can also book a deluxe room at the WL, which would give you a separate sleeping area and living room with a queen sleep sofa. That might be nice for privacy. In terms of layout, I'd choose a 2 bedroom DVC, FW Cabin or the WL deluxe. Here's the floor plan for the deluxe:

Unfortunately, you are probably too late to rent a DVC reservation from a member. Most members made their Dec reservations in Jan or May. You could check out the Rent/Trade Board to see if anyone has a reservation that they can't use and are willing to rent out.

Remember, though, the member fully controls the reservation until the moment you check in. You won't be able to call Member Services for any reason. You won't be able to confirm the reservation with Disney until a day or two before you check in and then you can call the resort directly.

You could make a reservation directly with CRO for a DVC two bedroom, though.

You can also book DVC directly through Disney, instead of renting points through a member. Or, you could try one of the family suites at All-Star Music. Those sleep 6.

As for two rooms, I believe you want connecting, not adjoining--that is if you want a door between the two rooms. (I could be wrong on that).

I would get two connecting rooms, even though you could technically all stay in a deluxe room for 5, or an all stars family suite. While I am sure you love your au pair I am sure she would like a bit of privacy to get ready. Having all of you sharing one tiny bathroom seems a bit tight for a vacation.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) last Sept. (2006)

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no meatle bar to hurt the sleepers back.
