Hi,

We will be cruising the first week of March 2003 and have started planning the shore excursions. In Cozumel and Grand Cayman, we basically want to spend the day at a beautiful quiet beach. Any tips?

Thanks!

I know of a great beach that was not too crowded in Cozumel.
We rented a jeep and just a ways past Playa del Sol (where the cruise ship does its beach break) Is a great beach area called
MR. Sanchos. There is no entry fee, the chairs and palapas are free. The waiter is right there to bring you all the drinks of food you want. There is a giant trampoleene for the kids( $4.00 all day)
Banana boat rides and not a ton of people. I will attach a photo.
Not sure if the link will work...let me know, if not I can email it to you.

We love Playa Bonita beach. There is a open air restraunt with good food. The shrimp cocktail is the best I have ever had. They wait on you at the beach too. There is plenty of chairs. Sometimes the beach is very calm & other times they have great waves for the kids to body surf. It's about half way around the island & I'm sure you could get good direction.

We did 7 Mile Beach in Grand Cayman - very easy to get there by taxi - get dropped off at the Holiday Inn - you just walk on chairs are available and free. There were plenty of taxis waiting to take you back to the ship.

We also did Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel - had a great time - the kids loved the water trapoline - easily took a taxi there and back.

I would also recommend Seven Mile Beach. Very clean, beautiful and easy to get to.

We would recommend either 7 mile beach or Rum Point. Both are very beautiful. We did both as shore excursions.

We went to Mr. Sanchos beach and loved it. Took a cab there. Our friends went to rum point and said it was very nice.

Here is a link to a few photos of Mr. Sanchos beach and if you want to check out all our 8/3 Western Magic cruise. Just hit the arrows to advance/reverse the pics.

The chairs and the huts in the photos were free. If you wanted a beach chair with a cushion that was extra.

If you are looking for a snorkeling excursion we were visiting Playa del Carmen (not a cruise) this past August and took a day trip with Eagle Ray Divers they have snorkeling and diving. They also have a great website. They took us to 4 reefs and the reef off of Chakaneb National Park (spelling ?) was awesome.

I've trying to decide between Mr. Sancho's and Playa Sol.. It will be just myself and my almost-7 year old when we go on the Western in February, and we like to do things in small chunks. No all-day at the beach or anything. :) I'd just like a nice beach I can lie on, and he loves to play in the water. He will *flip out* when he sees that trampoline -- but I was wondering what the minimum age for it is? And how deep is the water it's in? I don't want to get my son's hopes up if he can't even go on it.

Also, how much is the cab ride from the ship to Mr. Sancho's? Thanks!

It was "broken" when we were there on August 21st. They had taken it completely away. You might want to check out their website to see if there is a way to know when, if ever, it is going to be up again.

MY dd is 10 and she loved the trampoline, don't know if there was an age limit, but it is definitely in water that was over her head, I don't think I would have been comfortable with her on it if she wasn't a pretty good swimmer. We did set rules that she could only jump off the front of it so we could see her at all times and we also didn't allow her to swim under it.
