Hello,

My ds is turning 14 next week and we have decided to get him a phone. We are currently with AT&T and I am too in love with my iPhone to switch so we are looking to put him on a family plan. I am guessing with this age I am looking for a phone good for texting, but we are not going to get him internet access so that is not an issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. He is so excited because he is sure he is the last 8th grader to get a phone!!!:rotfl2:

My dd and I had the Xenon and we both hated it. That's how I got an iPhone, lol. She now has a Pantech Impact and seems to like it.

The Samsung Impression is a good text/touch phone - it has the texting keyboard and a touch screen. We got it free after rebate for our 15 year old.

You have many options when you add a new line - most any phone, except the iPhone or the new blackberry should be free (or nearly free) after rebate.

FYI, the store reps get $$ for price matching, etc. at the beginning of every month - best to go into the store early in the month to get a really good deal - do your homework, check pricing on WalMart, Best Buy, Sam's Club .coms for the phones you are interested in - AT&T will match.

My daughter got this one this year. It is a great phone!!

We got oldest DS, also 14, a Pantech C740 for christmas last year. It's a great phone. He absolutely loves it. It's a slider with the full qwerty keyboard. No touch screen but for him the keyboards were better. I took DS shopping at the store with me. I told him I needed to get some accessories and let him look around, play with the phones while I looked at the accessories. As a surprise I got him the phone he liked the best. Definitely go online to get the phone as you will get a much better deal. In the store they wanted $50 for DS' phone but I got it for free online :thumbsup2

My 13 you dd just got a Samsung sunbust. She loves it. Its a touch screen and has a touch screen QWERTY. I have one too and I love it too. We got ours at Costco, they were given away a bunch of freebees with it too

I work in an AT&T store, so I can give you some feedback on some of the comments and my own opinions and experiences.

The Impact is the most popular from our store with your son's age group, this gets my vote!

Great phone, but discontinued.

Something like this - we can price match, but it has to be a print ad or physical in store pricing and cannot be for a warehouse club (membership required places). We can also price match from our own online store.

Also a discontinued phone. This one was only out for <3 months. That worries me a little, but I have yet to see any issues with it.

My personal opinion is Pantech Impact. It has the features kids want with a good price tag. They are lasting and we have almost 0 issues with them.

My DS14 has a Samsung Flight. He had a different phone, my dad got the Flight and hated it, so he gave it to DS. DS is okay with it, I personally hate it. It's too hard to text.

My mother and I both have the Samsung Impression and we're enjoying them. My mother is texting for the first time in her life because of the ease of use. I tend to really like Samsung as a brand on the whole, my last was a Sync and lasted me almost 3 years before the clam shell hinge cracked and broke in half.

DD 13 has an iPhone but before that she had the Impression. She liked it but had a few issues with it not sending texts:(

My DD13 has the impression and has a few issues with the keyboard, not sending texts and it freezes up. It's still under warranty so AT&T are sending us a replacement. I wish we got a different phone. :(
