I'm getting ready to book our flight out of Honolulu on Continental Airlines. There are two options:
HNL to EWR (NY/ NJ) that departs at 10:45pm; this is a 9 hour flight. We'd then connect to MCO for another 2:45 minute flight. This would be my first choice because I'm thinking we could (if all goes according to plan) sleep for 7 or 8 hours of the HNL - NJ part of the flight since it is overnight. Following me so far...?
The other option is HNL to IAH (Houston, Tx) departing at 10:15pm; this is a 7:30 minute flight. We'd then connect to MCO for another 2:20 minute flight.

My question is for those of you familiar with these routes, at which airport are we more likely to encounter cancelled or delayed flights? We will be flying early December, so I'm sure bad weather may be a factor here.

And for those of you familiar with Continental Airlines, what have your experiences with this airlines been?

I hate flying, and the thought of a 13+ hour travel time really freaks me out :scared1: . Mahalo for any advice you can give me on this one.

Hmmm it is a toss up. Either airport can have bad weather in December especially Newark (that is my airport)

I would fly to Houston then to FL cause it seems like NJ is sorta out of the way. To fly north then have to fly back south to FL.

And if they say your plane leaves Newark at 8 pm you will just be pulling back from the gate then. I fly constantly out of Newark and we have never taken off on time. BTW Newark was just named one of the worse airports for on time arrivals and depatures.

I love Continental and this is the only airline I will fly. In march 2006, I was coming home from Vegas and we got very delayed. They gave us vouchers for money off another flight, free headphones or a drink on the flight. Lo and behold 2 weeks later i got a letter from Continental with another voucher for $50 off.

I hope this helps and it probably won't.

I was thinking the same thing. I was just looking at having a full nights sleep on this route. I'm probably just kidding myself, the kids will more than likely stay up the whole way anyway. Thanks for the advice, Kim. Exactly what I needed to hear.

JUst echoing that sentiment about Newark. Although it's so convenient to us, there's always delays, especially the later in the day that you get.

Oh come on - you've got to take this one. That's one FAST plane :)

On more serious note - as others have said, take the IAH flight. Shorter timeframe and less likelihood of a delay.
