Which travel sites do you think offer the best airfare? Im browsing now, hotwire, travelocity, expedia, travelzoo, priceline... theres many others i can think of. which have you found the best prices with? and im talking for nonstop flights (Im in particular looking to fly out from JFK or La Guardia).

I have learned the hard way to check several times a day and when you think you've found a good deal, BOOK IT! I usually check Orbitz every morning and then every afternoon when I'm planning a trip. If I find a good price, I go direct to the airlines to see what their rate is. Usually it's cheaper to book direct with the airlines (online) then thru a travel site. However, last Christmas I booked tickets for my aunt and her family for $150 per person leaving Detroit Metro on the 26th and nonstop to Orlando and returning January 3rd through Orbitz on Spirit (they called it a WEBFARE) and Spirit's website was way more $$$. We had already booked our seats out of Flint and we paid $472 per person. We arrived in Orlando at the same time and returned home at the same time. So she paid $600 for her family of 4 and I paid $950 for 2 tickets (1 baby in lap - free). Talk about feeling ill!

I have checked Orbitz and Expedia many times to get a baseline, but in the end, Southwest is always the cheapest. I also find there site to be the most straightforward, I hate having to enter my info a thousand times. I like their rapid rewards program too. After like eight roundtrips (they recently changed their policy somewhat) booked online, you get a coupon for a free flight. So even if your eight trips are short ones, you get a coupon that is good for any of their flights - long or short.

If airtran flys from your area they are having a good sale now from their website airtran.com. I wish I hadn't already bought my tickets a month ago! :rolleyes1

From JFK, go to Flysong.com and JetBlue.com. From Laguardia, also use FlySong.com. Some airlines, like JetBlue do not show up in Orbitz, etc. But also use those websites, you never know.

Out of those 2 NY aiports, you should be able to get very good fares. I have been booking $59 each way; I think it is now $64 or $79 in many circumstances.

We drive from Exit 8 A on the NJ Turnpike to JFK to take jet Blue. This month we are driving to Philly to take SWA. I can save hundreds over Continental in Newark by driving 35-45 minutes more to get on a cheaper airline. I love Jet Blue. IMHO they are the best airline bar none. There seats are marvelous blue leather, the tv at your seat makes the time wiz by, the flight attendants are friendly and accomodating and I love those snacks. You can have as many snacks as you like. I snack on biscotti and watch my favorite tv shows and I am always disapointed when I have to get off. I am a Continental Elite member but now I fly discount airlines if they offer a decent fare. You are lucky you can fly out of JFK and LGA since you have your choice of DL, Spirit (yuk! horrible airline), CO, United and Jet BLue. Both Continental and Delta charge more to go to MCO out of Newark than out of LGA or JFK. Lucky you!

I always do the following when searching for fares (1) find out the cheapest fares on Travelocity by doing a fare search for flexible days, then I go to the websites of the airlines to compare prices (2) always have Side Step on (3) check on SWA and Jet Blue, Air Tran might be an option as well for you (4) figure in the cost of parking at each airport and time spent driving there and FINALLY (6) Purchase tickets.

Make sure you always join their Frequent Flyer group before you fly. Also make sure you know the food policies, but most all airlines now serve very little to nothing, so I always bring my own stuff.

I hope this helps. I have started do this for others for a charge as it is time consuming but I always get the best rates! Need help email or PM me.

i live in queens, and literally right between JFK or LaGuardia, about 15-20 min from either airport. so i have my pick. i LOVE Delta and flew Song the last 2 times i went. But right now their prices are crazy (im not looking to go for a while, im just trying to get a ball park figure). Around when before a trip do you think they would start selling in the $79 range? my mom used to be a travel agent, she told me sometimes purchasing airline tickets last is the cheapest way to do it, when its already close to the time you wnt to go. is that around when i should see price drops?

i also signed up for orbitz notification of price changes, so i can keep track. really helpful tool!

NOT always. Jet Blue could come down to 79 but only when they first start to sell tickets. Check for when you are flying and buy when they first hit the internet by signing up for their email notifications.
