can be played by 8 & 9 yo boys that involve spending money? Not gambling but rather board type games. Trying to find a finance based game that can be played in less than 1/2 an hour start to finish for a cub scouts den meeting (believe it or not this is one of the requirements for Bears).

What about "The Inventors"

Also the game Masterpiece.

These games are "ancient" but they do have money. If I recall correctly - The inventors would probably be more interesting to a group of boys than a "hoity-toity" art auction.

Payday. It is based on a month & you can play as many months as you want.

We love Payday!
I remember it from being a kid.
And we play it with my 6 and 8 year old.

"Moneywise Kids" ~ It's a quick budgeting game that has you pay for food, shelter, medical, school, etc. and you have to have a certain amount of money in your "savings account" to win the the game. It makes the kids think about saving, then spending and who can win faster by what technique they follow.
We started using it with our daughter around age 5.

Can you still find Pay Day? I LOVED this game as a child. Also loved Life.

I used to love PayDay!! I had forgotten all about it until now :goodvibes: I have not seen it in years and years, but I bet I can find it somewhere if I keep looking.

We just did a modified version of monopoly when my DS was in Bears. We dealt out all the properties, let them trade, and started with whole monopolies already.

We have a Parker Brother's game called "Trust Me" that was awesome to play because it not only taught money, but also investment and ethics.

You pulled an investment card that said the investors would lose, break even, or win money. Then, you had to convince the other players to invest in it. It was fascinating to see people's personalities emerge - some people just wanted to make all the money and win, so they'd really oversell everything, even the bad investments. After one or two turkeys, no one really believed them. Other players would clue you in to bad investments, so you knew to trust them when they said they had a winner. Having a winning property and being trust-worthy is the easiest way to win the game, rather than tricking others'.

This game would be great for your scouts.

Looks like it's out of print, but if you know anyone with kids in their 20's, they might have a copy - it was sold in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

One of my favorites growing up was PAYDAY. Not sure if it's still around...

We just made our own quick game for our Bears. They had a task for each 'day' and got paid two pennies a day. They could put it in the bank (1/2c interest) or exchange for candy (3-5c per skittle etc). Ended up having to change prices throughout to tempt them to buy now, but we had fun and worked hard for their candy!

Payday came to mind for me too! I love that game. I believe it is still available at TRU.
