any other good, cheap hotels within walking distance to Disneyland? We're going again with our kids 6 and 3.5 the first week of October. I want a "fun hotel" like HoJo and don't know what to look at. I've only ever stayed at the Disneyland Hotel but don't want to put out that kind of money this year for a hotel and would rather stay put that extra money in staying an extra day in the park. :rotfl:

Thanks so much!

The only place we have ever stayed is Hojos so I can't suggest another hotel. Is there a reason why you don't want to stay at Hojos this time? Just curious....:)

Absolutely no reason! Just wanted other options. I'm going to book soon and just wanted to compare. Isn't the planning just as fun as the trip! :)

There's a Days Inn on Ball that was OK, nothing fancy at all but it was good. I think we paid around $60 a night for just the one night, but was a Saturday. I don't know if it was walkable tho, we have Premium Aps so we just park unless we are on Harbor.

Last time I checked, HOJOs was booked solid according to in-house reservations, due to a performing arts group that was staying there sometime after the first weekend in Oct. I have heard that things are looking like they may be fairly busy, (that's when we're going too). But who knows anymore? It is so hard to predict crowd levels these days. Just be warned, that if you are going the same week, that when I checked about 3 weeks ago, some hotels were already booked. Good luck and let us know what you choose! :goodvibes:thumbsup2

Ahhhhh...gotcha! :thumbsup2 And yes, I love the planning too! :)

We have only stayed at HOJO once for a late night before we check into the Grand Californian and thought it was a great value for the entertainment price. However, before we use to stay at GCH, we stayed at Embassy Suites South on Harbor. We love that hotel and would stay again, if we could not stay on-site. It is a little far for walking-you would have to use ATR, but it is manageable. The rates are usually $143.00 (advance purchase) per night, but include a made to order hot breakfast ( really top notch) omelets, potatoes, oatmeal, everything and a free manager's reception ( free wine/beer cocktails, free drinks for the kids) popcorn, pretzels. The rooms are very nice comfortable clean suites. Two queen or one king in the bedroom and a pull out couch, refrigerator, table, small bar sink and microwave. It is a really nice hotel!

I do not know if that is what you want to spend, but it is well worth it, if you cannot get the Entertainment rate at HOJO!

HOJO is totally booked! Bummer! Maybe because of Gay Days??? I'm looking at the Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites. Anybody been there? Thanks for all your responses.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in, but I am having a bit of dilemna myself and would love some feedback.

I currently have reservations at Super 8 on Katella. This appears to be about .66 miles, has a minimal breakfast and iffy reviews but I got it for a total of $130 for all 3 nights.

Just found a rate at Quality Inn and Suites for $58 per night, which I think ends up being darn close to $200 for all three nights. It is about .33 miles to DLR. Also includes breakfast and the reviews are pretty good.

I'm really tempted to spring for the extra $70, which is really $35 per family as it is me, and a girlfriend and our two sons and we are splitting it.

What to do???

Its so bizzare to me that there aren't more "fun" hotels next to Disneyland. I was so happy when HoJo's put in the pirate pool. The castle Sheraton is nice. I'm not sure when the last renovation was since its been a long time since I stayed there. But I remember the rooms were a good size and the grounds were pretty.

Also Candy Cane Inn always gets great reviews too.

I do not know when you are going to Disneyland, but HoJo has a entertainment rate of $59.00. You will at least be guaranteed a nice clean hotel! You can get an Entertainment book for $9.99 http://orange-county.entertainment.com/discount/browse.shtml?overrideLocation=N You can buy only the 2009 book for $9.99. All you need is an Entertainment card for the discount. It's something to think about! Good Luck!

Even though I am cheap, if it is REALLY $200 for the whole stay (including taxes, "resort fees" (I know there was one cheap hotel that had a $3.XX resort fee :headache: ), etc., I would go for the Quality Inn and Suites, if you're walking, unless you all just LOVE walking. I think the Super 8 would be quite a hike. But I've never stayed at either so I can't say how good either hotel actually is. If you are going when the parks are open late I would definitely go for the shorter walk, since you may want/need/know you should take an afternoon break, and I think it would be hard to take a break with a hotel as far away as the Super 8.

IF you have/can get an Entertainment card, and IF Hojo is offering the Entertainment Rate during your stay, you could do that for a bit more than the Quality Inn and Suites (not sure what the taxes are on $59/night but I'm almost positive that will put you over $200). I don't recommend buying from Entertainment direct, though...or if you do, make sure you buy early, preferably by phone, as if the website glitches and gives you too many books and a slower shipping rate than you requested, they won't take responsibility and you'll be in a big mess.

What to do???

My family stated at the Super 8 on Katella back in 2003. If your looking for a basic clean room to lay your head down at night it's worth the money. If your looking for any kind of extra amenities I would go else where. Having said that I would stay there again. It was a good location and the price was cheap and we only use our room to sleep and get ready in when we are on vacation anyhow.

Thank you, that it exactly what my expectation of Super 8 would be. I have checked with HOJO, but they are not offering the entertainment rate for our stay. Oct. 8-11. I am continuing to check though.

I just booked at the Anaheim Plaza for a trip in a couple weeks. It has good reviews overall, a huge pool, and is one of the cheapest within walking distance. It was $60-something a night. It does not have breakfast, but the cont. breakfasts we've had lately at the Harbor hotels have not been very good and were sparse anyhow.

Anyone that's stayed there, how long is the walk? It's hard to tell on the hotels map I found and I've only ever stayed at the Harbor hotels on the other side of the crosswalk--Tropicana, Carousel, and Camelot. Is it a similar walk as to Camelot, just the other direction?

If your heart is set on the HoJo you can book a room now and then ask them to adjust to the Entertainment Rate if it comes up (or else cancel the reservation). I've never been one to hold multiple hotel reservations, but with this economy I think I may start doing that myself.

I've not stayed at Camelot, so I can't compare, but it took me 12 minutes to walk from the Anaheim Plaza to the ticket booths at the Park. (I walk fast, and am not pushing a stroller or carrying a child, so the walk may be a few minutes more for others!) The walk is not bad at all! You will enjoy the huge pool; I really liked their pool, because even when there were alot of people in it, it never felt crowded. Everyone had their own space because the pool is just so big! Though they don't have a free breakfast, there is an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet on site. The food was about the same as what one can get at Denny's or Coco's, nothing fancy, but not nasty (like a certain...buccaneer-themed buffet across from the Park ), but it was fresh & there was LOTS of it.

Hope you have a fabulous trip!

WE have stayed at the BW Park Place Inn, Carousel, and Camelot - I would check their websites for the best prices. I would also call the carousel or camelot and see if they will give you a competative rate we did that. Also the Carousel has 1 bedroom suite which may would as a good alternative

Good luck
