Besides Castle stay, anything won of sig. value?

Just curious, now that YOAMD has been going for a bit, has anyone won anything of value over say $100, besides the Castle stay, of course. And just to clarify, I know some would say the Dream Fastpasses may be worth that, but I'm talking something of real value. We've read about the passes, ears and occasional treats/special visits with characters/families of the day etc. they're giving. Just wondering if anyone's gotten anything more.

Someone posted awhile ago about being witness to a family that won a trip to Italy as they were getting off PoC (I hope I remembered that correctly!). I also recall something about a Mediterranean Cruise being given away as well. Oh yes, a couple of DIS'ers have won $500 shopping sprees at the Emporium.

I received a newsletter yesterday from WDW and they had 3 scenarios of people winning. They talked about the castle, but nothing was said who won, but they said they awarded $500 shopping spree to a man and he found a child in a wheel chair and told the child to pick anything out.

The article mentioned how much the CM's love giving the prizes to guests and seeing the different reactions a family may have. The CM's knew they just gave the family a special memory they will remember for ever.

I have a question on the DVC.. if one was to win that, would they have to pay the charges every year or is that included in the win??? While that is an nice prize, if the yearly fee's aren't included, that is like saying here.. you can have this now all you you do is pay us XXX for the next 40 years

To answer your question- in a nutshell...Yes.

All fee's are paid for life - I gathered bits and pieces of info from several CM's in our 24 hours in the spotlight. I am sure there are others who know much more about this, but they kept telling me that all fee's were paid on the points you won...which should provide you with a week of accommodations somewhere inthe DVC for life.

I just wonder how many visitors are "extra" nice to staff now in hopes of being chosen---even though it's random. I am asure I won't be able to look at a CM without thinking, "OoooH! Pick me. Pick me!"

Anyone else read somewhere that wearing pins increases your chance of winning something?
