I'm looking for a cool vacation spot for us this summer. 2 teen boys, 15 & 18. Varied interests but mostly we like to get out and DO stuff. I'm not in the detailed pricing and planning stages yet, since I haven't yet picked a destination, so bear with my vague, open-ended questions.

I always thought Bermuda was supposed to be super expensive, but on a VERY quick looksie at flights and VRBO condos, it doesn't seem too terrible (this, just after trying to desperately find something remotely affordable for Hawaii ). I guess my only question at this point is....is it a generally more expensive destination? Ever been? With (big) kids? Any thoughts?

Hotels there are super expensive. A lot of people on the east coast go the cruise route. It sails for a day, docks in bermuda for like 4 or 5 days, then said back. It ends up being like a floating affordable hotel with food. From what I have heard from family it is an expensive destination.

I've never been to Bermuda but totally loved Aruba this past year. I don't know if I'll ever get back but I really would love to try. Warm but not tropical so no bugs, plenty of places to snorkel and the wild side of the island was great to explore... I'd rent a SUV next time. The best part was the beach, not rough at all and the breeze keeps you from feeling the heat. Nothing but thumbs up for us.

I lived in Bermuda for five years, went back to visit friends in my early twenties, and got married there three years ago. It's not that expensive to fly there, and if you find the right place, it's not overly expensive to stay there.

However....

You will have to pay for most if not all your meals, and they are pricey. Even if you stay in a place with a kitchen, buying groceries can add up since most food items have to be imported to the island.

That being said, I love the place and would go every year if money was no option. You can do things that either don't cost anything or cost very little. One of my favourite things to do is take a ferry ride around the sound. If you purchase a public transit pass that covers buses and ferries, it ends up being a cost of only a few dollars. Visiting the beach is free, and let me tell you, the beaches are second to none.

I agree with the poster who suggested taking a cruise to the island. You get your accommodation and food included in one price, and there is nothing like getting that first glimpse of the island from the water (we cruised down for our wedding).

It sounds like you've found a plan that could work for you with the condos, so I say go for it. Bermuda is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, and to this day it feels like going home whenever I go back.

cruised out of NY harbor on NCL. Loved the sights of sailing out of NY/NJ. We sailed to Bermuda and spent 3 days docked. This gave us best of both worlds... amazingly beautiful island and the comforts and dining onboard the ship. However, my group did not care for NCL (ranged from 8 yrs. to 54) but would go back to Bermuda in a heartbeat and maybe try RCCL. If you do go...do not miss Horseshoe Bay. The beach is gorgeous.:goodvibes
