As a potential buyer into the DVC, please explain the benefits of owning at more than one resort.

So I now know that if I own 150 at AKV and 50 at BLT I cannot book 11 mos out at the BLT with my AKV points. (previous ? answered)

So why only own such a small amount at one resort if you cannot transfer points from resort to resort?

If you cannot transfer points do you guys go multiple times during the year?

TIA for your answers.

People often use those small contracts to go once every three years, banking and borrowing. Or they might have very small BWV or BCV contract to just stay a very few nights for Food and Wine every year, with a bigger trip at their "main" home resort.

Exactly, we bought BLT 250 points to go every three years to WDW. But, now we would like to add on 100 points at GCV to go there every other year.

Would it be a lot of Disney?..............................................

My children don´t think so.

I'll be specific and use your example (150 VAKL points, 50 BLT points).

You might own 50 BLT points because once a year you want to book a room with a view of the Magic Kingdom for your wedding anniversary - you'd only stay a few nights with your spouse - the kids would stay home and you'd relive your honeymoon - where you had a MK view. You don't need more than a studio for that sort of once a year trip, and you don't need to stay a whole week - but you'll probably use weekend points and drive (let's say you live in Atlanta, which is drivable for a long weekend).

Every year you have 150 points at the AKL. You get a one bedroom that sleeps five for you, spouse and three kids during a low point season for midweek. You probably have a few "extra" BLT points to use at seven months over there every year to extend the vacation - based on availabilty - but for most times that will be less challenging than getting the BLT MK view that is emotionally important to you .

I am one who bought 40 pts. at BLT. Why? Many reasons. Crisi sites an excellent example. There are also other reasons....I am combining these pts. with another contract with the same UY to use at 7 mos. The contract is small enough that my children (if so desired) could continue to own it with small MF's.....when I want to stay at BLT, I have 11 mos. booking preference, which is very important to me. Resale should not be an issue.

250 points to go every three years :scared1:

Yikes.........

Most of my points are at AKV as I love that resort but I wanted to be able to stay at VWL for a few days during the Holiday Season every 2 or 3 years so I bought a 50 pt resale contract so I can combine 3 years worth of points to stay there.

It all seems like a very confusing thing to maintain. I don't know how you all keep it all straight with different UY's and different home resorts...planning ahead and banking and borrowing. Oh, it makes my head hurt thinking abou it.

If I ever added, I might be tempted to wait for something at my current home resort with the same exact UY, too! That would be more my speed! :lmao:

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

Well, there are 9 of us, so we NEED a two bedroom.....

That makes more sense, we're just a family of less than 1/2 that size (4 of us) so we NEED a studio but will always STAY in a 1BR :lmao: That's the best part of DVC in my book - for what it would cost me to book a regualr hotel room I can instead stay in a 1BR with all the amenitities.

If you add on through Disney (not resale) you will automatically have the same UY for all of your add-ons. So the banking deadline would be the same for all of your Disney-bought contracts. You would have to keep track of your add-ons if you're going to use them every other or every third year to make sure MS uses the points you want when making reservations.

If you add on by buying resale you can buy a contract any UY that you want. It doesn't have to match the UY of your master contract.

I agree with you, though. Different UYs would be confusing to me. We have been looking for a small BWV contract resale and that's one thing that's important to us - getting the same UY. Having points at different resorts doesn't seem to confuse me yet! Of course, we've only done one add on. ;) I've banked/borrowed our AKV points to maximize the every third year trip.

Out of curiosity, what is a typical banking deadline?

I believe the banking deadline is 4 months from the end of your UY. We have an April UY so it goes from April 1st to March 31st. The last day that I could bank any unused points would be November 30th (of any given year). If I had various UYs, which I'm sure many do, I'd need a spreadsheet to keep track of them! It's probably not as difficult as I think it is.

Of course, my AKV points are the only ones I usually bank. We use all of our SSR points every year and borrow them, too. Never seem to have enough :confused3

We have 165 points at AKV and 150 at BWV. We have enough points to do an entire 5 or 6 night stay at each resort every year, booked at the 11 month window. They share a December use year and we can combine any points we haven't yet used at 7 months.

We bought AKV points to have the occasional option of Club level, and to be certain to get Savannah View the rest of the time. We bought BWV so we could go just about every year during F & W, and get either Boardwalk or Standard view.

We will probably buy Hawaii points, when/if they become available, and we will probably buy enough to get a 2 bedroom ocean view villa once every three years.

Thanks for the info! I actually expected the deadline to be sooner, so that's nice to know.

No problem....I'm almost positive about the deadline. Someone correct me if I'm wrong! I've always banked well before the deadline so it's never been a real consideration for me.

Ok. So if I am understanding this correctly if you do not use all of your points from either of your contracts and bank them in the appropriate time they will be combined into the same bank?

They will all be banked. But they still retain their home resort identity. And even if banked, can only be used at their home resort at 11 months out (or any resort at 7 months out).
