I hope I'm in the right place to ask this question. My extended family is having a reunion at Hilton Head Island this summer. We've rented 2 homes in Palmetto Dunes. My question is, as a DVC member, do I have access to the Beach House & other member benefits, even though I'm not staying at the DVC resort?

no - think it is like WDW - you have to be staying at HH to use their stuff.

Hmmm...I know that when I was at Disney World in November, staying at the Polynesian, I was able to take advantage of some of the discounts offered to DVC members, even though I wasn't staying at a DVC resort. Maybe it was because I was still staying on the property??

You're able to take advantage of all DVC offers at any time. You're not allowed to go and use the facilities whenever you like that at any resort.

We stopped in HH on our way home from WDW last year. We were not allowed access to the inside of the beach house, but they did give us a pass to get through the gate going to the beach house. We were allowed to park there & access the beach. There are restrooms accessible on the outside of the beach house.

To get into the beach house you have to have a resort room key. But you should be able to use your DVC ID to get any of the restaurant discounts in the area.

I'm pretty sure that the Beach House is on public access property, meaning that you can park there and then walk past the Beach House down to the beach, but as far as being able to go up into the Beach House itself and use the pool and restaurant, you need to staying at the HH DVC resort.

If I remember correctly, there's an outside window for the CS place at the beach house. As you look at the beach house from the road, it's over on the left, where the outside-access restrooms are. I think I remember that one year we just went up on the porch there, ordered food, and sat at a picnic table on the porch and never went inside the beach house.

That is interesting, I've been to that Beach House a dozen or more times and never really noticed that window. I'm sure you are correct, and I can even invision where it is. If so, that is a nice little option for those unable to use the Beach House itself.

As others have said you can use the outside access restrooms and little counter window. Its a small area, but usually not in much use as most people do not realize it is even there. But you will not be able to access the actual beach house, pool and those facilities without a resort room key.

I have used that little window a couple of times.

My understanding is that public access and the restrooms that the public can use were part of the deal with Palmetto Dunes to get the land for the Beach House.
