Our son is going to college in the Orlando area and just today got a part-time job at Disney World. Does anyone know what kind of benefits employees get for their families??

Congrats to your son on becoming a CM :)

Here are some of the discounts that I remember-

CMs will normally get a maingate pass which will allow them to "sign" people into the park- I forget exactly how many days they get. I believe they get these after their initial probational period is over but am not 100% sure- maybe someone else on here knows. Other than this maingate pass, the discount on regilar tix isn't that much.

They can also get up to 40% discount on hotel rooms for their family to stay at.

He will also be able to get discounts on food and merchandise as well as tix to la nouba and the waterparks.

What will he be doing?

Perks for family members are great, as Syrreal mentioned. If he gets a *blue* main gate pass I believe that entitles him to get up to 4 people into the parks 6 days per year ~ he will need to be with you to use that pass. Plus I think he should get 2 *white* comp tickets ~ those he can give away and he doesn't have to be with you when you use them.
The room discounts are great :)

Few years ago our daughter did the college program thing and the discounts were so good, and her only being there for 6 months, we went down 3 times in that period. Plus, huge discount on purchases, we bought souveniors like crazy, also have them check out property control, its an area for CM's only where they take all the outdated and used stuff from around WDW and sell it, CM's back then got 75% of total purchases, talk about souveniors, really scored at that place.

She graduated college and went back to work for Disney another year, again we visited 3 times for lengthy stays, and enjoyed ourselves to the nines. Temps and humidity plus Disney low pay scale for graduated degree employees was not enough to keep her there and back she came to her home state but we still visit WDW at least once a year but moreover twice a year but sure miss those steep discounts and fringe benefits.

He is going to be a character. Being a Disney-obsessed family, we're all pretty excited for him!

How fun :) Quite a few of my daughter's friends were (are) characters ~
With his benefits I'm sure you'll be making quite a few trips down to visit him ... Enjoy! :cool1:

My daughter could deal with the weather, but the low pay was something she just couldn't do on a full-time basis ~ It's pretty sad what they offer to those with college degrees. She did stay on as a casual/seasonal CM though so she still gets the benefits ... now that IS a good deal.

Part-Timers get
. . . health insurance coverage availability (benefits are less than full-timers)
. . . resort and park store purchase discounts
. . . resort and park meal discounts
. . . resort room discounts for themselves and/or for their guests
. . . free admission to the parks
. . . free admission (limited quantity of visits) for immediate family
. . . major discounts on select merchandise

NOTE: I do not believe this is the spot to mention the percentages, prices, or free admission policies for CM's (full-time, part-time or seasonal).

What great benefits for anyone who works at Disney! Can I send my 9 year old down there to work so we can get in FREE? :rotfl: :rotfl: :lmao:

Why not? I mean, these are HR benefits, correct? They aren't secrets, all employees get these benefits, don't they? If the concern is that we'll all be jealous, well YEAH! But that doesn't mean that it's somehow inappropriate to disclose the public policies of employment at WDW.

I, for one, would love to know :teeth: !

I think just because it can be a lot of information . . .not that it's a big secret. Depending on type of employee you are, it could effect how big your discount is or other benefits, which could get wordy. Not sure about CT/Seasonal but I know that (at least when I was there) part time CMs got 20% off merchandise and full time got 35%. Part time gets free admission, but (I could be wrong) Seasonal gets free admission while they're back working . . so you couldn't just work the 40 hours a year (or whatever they're requiring now) and get in free the rest of the year.

The % of discounts and whatnot changes all the time. So even our info here may be out of date almost as soon as we type it <lol>

When I was there full time the CM room discount could be up to 75% but you had to wait until just 3 weeks before you were trying to get the room to see if there was space available. Which usually meant you got a pretty good deal on really expensive resorts but it was usually more than you were wanting to spend or not at a resort you really wanted. Now all CMs get the same discounts on hotels.

I know that the big diff between what level of CM you are is in the maingate passes. The higher you are, the more people/times you are allowed in but I am unsure as to how many/what is the diff. If I am not mistaken, even seasonal gets free admission for a few people now.
