Hey, everybody! We're back!! I don't have time to post much now (lots of errands, laundry, see parents) but we had a wonderful time. I'll try to be back later tonight to chat some. :goodvibes

Yay! You're back!!! :goodvibes

Glad to know you had a good time. And mark your calendar if you can join us ... Saturday night around 8PM CST we're going to have a wine party here. Everyone brings their own bottle and we're going to share tasting notes and food pairings and chat and just generally be friendly ... it's what the friendies do. :thumbsup2

Do you guys know how ... special we should feel that Guy Incognito stopped by?

That's my husband!!! :rotfl2:

guess he's not incognito anymore

Great... I take a couple of days off, ALMOST get arrested and I miss everything.... God help me if I ever go on vacation... :rotfl2:

ALMOST arrested :confused3 You're killing me, what did you do :rolleyes1

Welcome home :goodvibes

:lmao: That's exactly what Jay said when I told him I was going to spill the beans.

He racked up most of his posts stirring the pot here on the community board last year when people were still allowed to talk about those topics-that-must-not-be-named. ;)

Hugs to you Kathy ... your family is in our thoughts.

That's my husband!!! :rotfl2:

:worship: We're not worthy! :worship:

Was it wrong that I laughed when Michael clocked her in the eye with that cooking sheet?;)

This statement alone makes me with I had watched the show. :rotfl: I guess I'll have to catch next season as I can't find this one on HULU.

Question for those of you planning to come to the DISmeet ...

do you mind if I have someone make up nametags so we'll know who we are? I was thinking of putting the DIS-name, followed by that person's first name.

I just want to make sure everyone is OK with that idea before I move forward ... and don't worry - this isn't anything fancy; it's peel and stick! :lmao:

Also ... Jay and I are going to bring a bottle of Frozin to the get together. We can buy it here relatively inexpensively and have yet to drink the bottle we were so excited to buy ... so, October seemed like a good time to open it up and share with you fine folks.

:goodvibes

Sounds fine by me. Now I'm going to apologize well in advance because even with nametags, my Fred WILL butcher folks names anyway. :sad2:

Welcome home! Settling back in is rough, but take your time. Can't wait to hear all about the trip.

Hey stranger! Nice to see you here again. The buttons are $3 each ... I will mail yours out this week.

I don't like olives either but I actually do like olive oil ... go figure. :rolleyes1 Going to Crete would be awesome ... is your company hiring? :rotfl2:
I'm with you, I like olive oil, but not olives, at least not green ones. Black ones I don't mind.

In my circle of friends, it gets mixed reviews. Some love it, some don't.
I do like where it's located. Very pretty nice boutique shopping area of the Bellagio. I've not eaten there, hubby has. It was a few years ago. He like his food OK, but not enough for us to go together on trips since then. Wish I could be more help. Whatever you decide, hey, you're in Vegas! Enjoy!!

Just wanted to pipe up on this and I know EVERYONE has a different experience BUT...

We had 14 people, horrible service (my husband loves a drink at BlueZoo and they knew how to make it but said they didn't want to take the time among other things), food was good but 5 out of us including me had "food issues" over the next two days. This was also our 1st meal of the trip so it wasn't some other place. A few of us wrote letter and we never heard anything back.

Lori and TigerKat your family is on our thoughts!
Thank you for the excellent candid advice..on further inspection..and with your take on it..we will be looking at other places. Is there another nice restaurant in the bellagio that you would recommend..i know there is a steak house, but is it $$$$$$$$$$$$$ ..we dont' mind spending a good amount, since it is our honeymoon and our first nice "married" meal..but anything more than smith and wolenski/capital grill prices might be a bit much!

I was wondering about names & nametags. Do you want us to just do our own, to save you the trouble?

I love Frozin! I haven't decided on what to bring? I'm worried about packing wine in the luggage, any tips on packing?

Sooooooo.....

The question of the day is...

If part of my many responsibilites of my "work"... :rotfl2: will include going over to Crete and checking in on the olive oil production... Do I actually have to like olives??? :confused3

Granted my only experience so far has been either jarred or canned...

We'll have to see...

I love olives! Will your company send me in your place? ;)

I missed this! What are we tasting?

You almost got arrested? Why am I imagining that a "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" charge is involved in this scenario?:lmao:

I'm with the others....love olive oil, can't stand olives. So if you only have to taste the olive oil, you'll probably be fine

Welcome home! Glad to hear you had a great time, and don't let the pile of chores knock you over!

Chelsi, welcome home to you as well!

Thank you for my welcome home wishes!:goodvibes We had a great time but it's always nice to be home too! I miss the cats and my own bed!

Here are some food and other pics from the trip -

1st here is our cat Kabuki - she hurt her back legs just before the 4th and has had her tower taken away so she can't jump too much - but her look is the normal "leave me alone" face she always has!:rotfl:

This is our kitten Sesame getting my new office curtains nice and hairy!

OK on to what you want -FOOD!:yay:

On the way in we stopped at Taylors Automatic Refresher for lunch! This is the one at the Napa Oxbow Market which is VERY cool!

sonoma09008.jpg

I had the regular burger which is great! Jason had the WISCONSIN SOURDOUGH
A burger with grilled mushrooms, bacon, cheddar cheese,
mayo & BBQ sauce on grilled sourdough.

We also had Sweet Potato Fries that are Fantastic!

Then it was off to Sonoma!

We did A LOT of wine stopping for pictures and tastes but I wont add all of them for you. Then it would be like a trip to your Aunt and Uncles house for travel slides - "yep it's another vine"!

Thanks, Chelsi.

I had lunch at Todd English's Olives™ (you didn't think I'd leave out the trademark, did you?) in Las Vegas in Jan 2007, and my experience was different. I thought it was fairly empty in there during lunch, but the food was fantastic. I had a tuna carpaccio appetizer that was fairly good, but the main course was the best. Butternut squash ravioli in a brown butter sage sauce. It was really nice with a glass of Conundrum. :goodvibes I can't believe I remembered this, because I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday! :rotfl2:

I've already picked some restaurants I want to try during my birthday celebratory gluttonfest. I'm going to L'Atelier on my actual birthday, and on "show nights", we're eating at places located close to the shows. So we've got Emeril's Table 10 (do I trademark him?), Stripsteak, and Mesa Grill.

We stayed in a town called Healdsburg so we could walk to restaurants at the end of the day. Dinner that night was at a place called Willies Seafood Bar. They have a couple places in the area and all have great food that is tapas style and sizes!

Hamachi ceviche and taro chips!

Goat Cheese and Spinach Salad with Pork Belly dressing!!! YUM!

All wonderful:cheer2:

Gosh, I leave for a few days and I'm 10 pages behind.

My comments on The Next Food Network Star...

I can't believe no one brought up the horrible name for Jeffrey's show, "The Ingredient Smuggler." I really thought it was a joke and I was surprised Jeffrey went for it. Even though he was a good chef, he was really stuck on the south of the border foods and I agree that that is Bobby Flay territory. Also, Jeffrey using different odd ingredients does not make me want to find them and use them. It reminds me that I live in St. Louis which will most likely not carry any of the ingredients he will use.

I grew to like Melissa. I agree with the other posters that her working mom schtick will work better at Food Network than Jeffrey's. I did think it was TMI about her mother's death. However, I do wonder how many more pointers she's got left in her holster. Can it sustain a whole season?

I was really disappointed in Debbie. She threw everyone under the bus. She looked like the best competitor for a while. She had an ease in front of the camera that got her very far in the competition. BUT she needed to try new cuisines. I didn't like her Soul to Soul concept. It always ended up as Asian food. Most of the time she didn't have Southern cooking or refer to it.

WHEW!!! That was a lot of typing.

Me the next morning at The Flying Goat Coffee! With all the wine I can see why these people need STRONG coffee when they wake-up!

sonoma09038.jpg

Jason at J for a taste!
sonoma09054.jpg

Dinner that night was At Charlie Palmers Dry Creek Kitchen. We didn't plan this one but sat at the bar! They had a Bing Cherry Cosmo that was amazing but my phone isn't letting me upload this photo! :confused3

We had some corn soup that was wonderful but the photo looks like baby food so I will save you all!

This is the what the menu says -
SWEET WHITE CORN SOUP
SAUTÉED BAY SCALLOPS, BACON GELÉE, GRILLED SCALLION EMULSION
also some
HOUSE MADE + LOCAL CHARCUTERIE PLATE
ASSORTED LOCAL MUSTARDS, MARINATED OLIVES, PETIT CORNICHONS

OK on to photos!
BEEF + FOIE GRAS SLIDERS
HOUSE MADE BRIOCHE BUNS, TRUFFLE AIOLI, BABY ARUGULA

sonoma09071.jpg

AMAZING! They came in three and I really thought Jason and I were going to push one or the other off our seats for it!

CHOCOLATE AND PEANUT BUTTER BAR
DARK CHOCOLATE MARQUIS, PEANUT BUTTER MOUSSE, CHOCOLATE SORBET

sonoma09072.jpg

Jason LOVED this! He is Mr. Peanut Butter and Choc. :woohoo:

Debbie's concept was always meant to have Asian (Yes, I'm Debbie! I'm Korean!) influences. The concept was Seoul (as in South Korea) to Soul. Or maybe Soul to Seoul. But you get the idea.

And Chelsi, the food looks fantastic! They did not skimp on that goat cheese for the salad, and I want that beef and foie gras slider!! Oh, and the PB and chocolate dessert looks terrific. I'm a big fan of that flavor combo in the No Way José at Beaches and Cream. :cloud9:

The food was amazing and I thought of you with all the Foie .. until 2012 we can live it up here and many ducks will go down  Jason and I have never been to Beaches and Cream!:scared1: Can you believe it?

The day of our Anniversary at Ironhorse!

sonoma09087.jpg

We went to a place called Cyrus for dinner and it's compared to The French Laundry but not as hard to get in! I have to say Jason and I agree this is the BEST meal I have ever had! We didn't take a lot of pictures but YELP has some and I will write when we had, they do some very cool things with molecular gastronomy like one of the amuse bouche was a beer drop that when you popped it in your mouth it was a shot of IPA beer. It wasn't over done though. Jason always complains if the restaurant has some kind of strange foam for no reason but he was in love with all here also!

The coolest thing of the night was that they new it was our anniversary so they brought out a glass dome and attached was a gold balloon. The dome had warm cookies under and then they said this is a special treat for you special day and the balloon BLEW CHOCOLATE on the cookies! That is right I said blew chocolate  It is the coolest thing I have ever seen and if I knew it was coming I would have gotten a picture!

OK! On with what I do have and the menu -

My Drink -Its the Watermelon one with Old Bay! SO GOOD! :dance3: They also have a silver staw with a point at the end so it's cold when you drink and you can pick all the bits out!
