Hi Y'all,

I'm sorry no wine tonight! We went to a crab boil at my brother's house, celebrating my niece's 16th birthday. For us boiled seafood screams for beer. Tonight the beer was our usual Abita Amber. Something all of you can try at the N'awlins booth for F&W. A nice smooth amber beer.

We also tried another amber beer my brother had, oddly named Trouble Brewing Amber Ale. The slogan on the bottle was "Here Comes Trouble" and they were so right, YEEAAUUUCH! I can't even figure out who brews it. The only other thing on the label is "Small Batch Craft Beer using the choicest hops and the finest barley malts". This is a small batch that should have been thrown out!

bliss - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 50's not so bad. Even 58 is not so bad! And congrats on the weight loss. I have also lost a lot of weight in the past couple of years and am struggling to keep it off. So far, not doing too badly in this department, but I don't want to have to work as hard as I did for those first 113 pounds!

Sounds like a great evening ... well, apart from the skunky beer. We bought a new laptap and a new "brain" for our primary computer ... sales tax holiday here in MO so it seemed like a good time to take advantage. Jay was supposed to make another batch of salsa but he's been transferring files all night.

OK ... here's the label and other such info about my wine tonight:

Reserve Grand Veneur, Cotes du Rhone, 2008.

According to the back label, the vineyards are located on terraced and pebbled slopes, 25 kilometers north of Avignon in Southern France. This particular wine is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Cinsault.

It says that the nose reminds one of fresh fruit ... I've never smelled fruit that reeks of vinegar ... strawberries and watermelon ... I hate watermelon; I really need to start reading the labels before purchasing!

Served cold, it supposedly goes best with light summer meals, salads, and grilled meats.

All I know right now is that it goes best chased with cold water.

If it reeks of vinegar, chances are it has started to turn into vinegar. We have had a couple of corked bottles lately, so it does happen!

It might be good with cheese but I'm not hungry enough to eat any cheese ... stunning though that admission may be to everyone here.

That really is shocking. I need to go buy some cheese I haven't had any good cheese for almost two weeks now.

disneyfav4ever....I had the same reaction to turning 25....it completely freaked me out. But neither 30 or 35 fazed me....and I seem to not care about 40 either (although I do still have a few more years to get there, so that may change!)

I have decided that I will no longer have friends younger then me. That way if my friends make fun of my age, I can just say ha ha, you're older.

Townshend Pink Table Wine, Washington.....I actually really liked this one. I haven't had many Washington wines, and was afraid that this would be like a zinfandel, but it was just a nice light dessert wine. Very fruity and floral at the same time.

This sounds like one I would like. I really like sweeter dessert wines. I love ice wine, but really can't afford it that often. My favorite wine recently has been Polka Dot Pink, which is a sweet reisling, and was very sweet. My mom tried it to, and said it was much to sweet for her taste.

Ironically enough, I put a bag of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans in Mike's stocking every year at Christmas, and while he has tasted dirt, earwax and booger, he has yet to get a vomit one!

I got a bag of those beans years ago when I used to eat Jelly Bellies all the time, and my dad would always eat them all. So I put those in the dish instead, and you can guess what happened. He never ate my jelly beans after that.

It was a good evening, two (well three actually) kinds of cakes to celebrate with! DD baked the "official" b-day cake, a super chocolatey chocolate cake from scratch. My neice made two of her own ice cream cakes. The one I tried was made with oreo crust & vanilla/chocolate ice cream. Yum!

Congrats on the computer & brain! We used the tax holiday to replace our wine fridge that the repairman totally fried! Yeah came out to repair a working but not cooling properly fridge. Took it all apart, "fixed" it, plugged that baby in & sparks, smoke, lights go out!

Sounds like a great night! The skunky beer we had was advertised as a "craft beer" as well....so I think I will be avoiding anything labeled as such in the future!

It's tax free weekend here as well, but I refuse to set foot into a retail store. Last year was total insanity...you'd have thought it was Black Friday the way people were pushing each other out of the way!

It wasn't nearly as bad yesterday as I expected it to be with the tax free shopping. There were a lot of local cities / municipalities that opted out (talk about shooting yourself in the foot) and I was sure the places we were headed were going to be a madhouse but it was fine. A little crowded at Best Buy but nothing unbearable. We also stopped at the mall for a couple of items and it was crowded but again, nothing terrible.

Jay let me pick up a cute little black coach wristlet that I can use for evenings out, so I can finally dump that servicable but falling apart and downright clunky little black purse that I've been using for the past eight years.

I wish it were that simple!

I fell in love with that Rose in Epcot last year after being terrified that it was going to taste like white zinfandel. So of course the Rose we're trying tonight smells like chardonnay and tastes exactly like a zinfandel, which I do not like in the least.

I already told Jay one of the first stops we're making once we get settled in is to the wine shop in France so I can nab a bottle or two. If I remember correctly it wasn't too badly priced ... maybe $15 per bottle.

I'm glad we tried something new last night, but I think just because of my personal wine preferences, I'm going to stay away from wines in the future that are pink.
