I have heard that Beltz mall is closing at the end of May for refurbishment - does anyone know if this is correct?

Apparently so Kelly - to be honest, it needs it. Let's hope it opens up again and it lovely and shinier than before!! I think a new company has bought it over - something like that!

The info that I was given was that Belz will be closing down 'this month' and that new owners Prime Outlets (www.primeoutlets.com) plan a major makeover for them to make them go head-to-head with Orlando Premium Outlets. No-one seems to know any timescale involved, but I'd have to think the Belz malls (and the Designer Outlet centre) as they exist now would need to close for several months for the re-design. However, there is SO much other choice in the area these days, their temporary closure shouldn't be TOO painful!

Thanks Simon.

I felt the last time we were in Orlando, in May 2003, that the Malls could do with a bit of refurb, so hopefully this will be good news. In all my previous visits, numbers visiting the malls appeared to be less and less.

I'm glad Beltz isn't closing down, but does anybody know if they will be having their "tent sale" in October.

If you don't know what the "tent sale" is, it is when they put up giant tents on the car parks between two buildings and most of the shops put out clearance lines. Got a "London Fog" raincoat for under £10.00 last year.

If you are in Orlando weekend of 15th Oct and like a bargain it has got to be worth a look.

I was very surprised at how down at heel Beltz looked last August. I would still hope it remains open as we enjoyed shopping there on our two previous visits. I must say that Premium was great though.

Surely they wont close all the Malls and all the annexes at the same time! That would be a huge job.

Whilst agreeing that certain areas are looking in need of attention there are still many bargains to be had so I would be sad to see it closed for our visit this year. It would make more sense to do it one mall at a time.

If it is all closed can anyone let me know what TJ Maxx is like - is it the same idea as Ross?

Is that the outlet where the giant Nike store is? I hope not I live to go there for new trainers each trip.

That is the one but there is a big Nike outlet store up at the premium outlets anyway.

Yes, TJ Maxx, Ross and Marshalls are all pretty much the same and pretty interchangeable. They do offer some of the best shopping in the area, though, IMHO. Huge amounts of stuff from clothes to toiletries, much of it pretty ordinary but some significant bargains if you wade through it all (as we do, often :teeth: ).

Thanks Simon - I've not heard of Marshalls. I know there's a Ross and TJ Maxx up near the Belz Designer Mall - is Marshalls there too?

I cant believe there's so many shops I've not discovered :cloud9:

There is a new Marshalls in a brand new plaza with Super Target and a big JoAnn store (the latter of which is wonderful for scrap-bookers) just east of the Highway 192 junction with the 535 (Apopka-Vineland Rd). Super Target is also pretty good for electronics and other goods (bought mountain bikes from there earlier this year at $46 each!!). Bealls Outlet Centers are other good ones to look out for in this vein, although there is more 'tat' to wade through!

I am not surprised that it is closing.
The last time we were there, some 12 months ago, it was the land of the English/Scottish Chavs, with the wearing of football shirts and caps than anything else, all looking for "barrgins" with little Waynes and Waynetts running around the place.

That puts most decent people off and they will go elsewhere which is what they have been doing.

Lights blue touch paper, puts fingers in ears and awaits explosion.

Just got back a day or too ago and was at Belz last Friday and there was no sign of it closing, and seemed to be doing a brisk trade. Was told that it had changed ownership and it does need brightening up be we go their for the discounts not the decor, and there were plenty of them so dont worry its still there.
