Since we're posting pictures... this is my oldest daughter from a couple years ago. Forced dress up!

We were taking pictures of her to try to come up with a logo, or at least something original for signage and brochures. I ended up with this one.

Which ended up on here (top of the picture, on the sign)

One thing i have noticed about belly dancing is that the girls/women are different sizes. Unlike on FASHION TV on Zoom, where all the runway models are tall and anorexic, the belly dancers I have seen have REAL bodies!!! they have CURVES where curves are meant to be. As a man, I like that. Those skinny/bony girls on Zoom HD Fashion TV dont do a darn thing for me.

Did you females out there hear that??? Not all guys want skinny!!!
So when you try on that skirt and its too tight... Its not always a bad thing. Attractive comes in all shapes and sizes.

Belly dance in America is very "goddess" oriented. We like hips and butts and things that jiggle. Of course, that doesn't mean I want to see someone's belly hanging over their jeans in the grocery store. Time and place, people!

I do bellydancing, but I never took any formal lessons. I bought some DVDs and taught myself. It's a GREAT workout!

At the festival I referred to earlier there was a pregnant girl up there dancing. She was as good as the rest of them, only had a bit more to show

This reminds me of a workshop my group attended last year where we were all sitting around in a hotel room together eating pizza in between the classes and the show, and I looked at my slice of pepperoni and proclaimed "I'm so glad we aren't ballerinas!"

(No offense intended towards those who study ballet- we do, too!)

I'm not a girl you'll ever see hanging out in a bikini, but our dance is such a great support system of people who see your body for what it can do, not what shape it is.
