Can we pull up to BLT for a bellman, or do we have to go to the Contemporary?

Thanks.

Been over a year since I stayed at BLT. At that time, there was someone there to unload luggage and take it to your room. Assume it has not changed.

Ok... It has been a long time since we have wanted bell services at BLT. We drove and have lots of stuff.

Thank you.

5:33 just got text that room is ready! We'll be arriving shortly! Must be crazy busy.

Yes, the bellman at BLT was a little slow yesterday.

Had a bad experience with the bell hop at BLT. Had frozen groceries sitting in the sun because they refused to allow me the cart to bring up to my room. They said they'd bring it right up. 20 min later, no groceries. I ran down & grabbed the cart (still sitting in the sun) & the bell hop chick just standing there smiling at me. I was fuming. I grabbed the cart & wheeled it up to my room. Had the cart back downstairs in 3 minutes. Unreal. I was summonded to the front desk an hour later. they wanted to know what was wrong. Seriously? I told them flat out this was unacceptable & not what I expected at a Disney delux villa. they completely agreed & offered some free fast passes. I declined & told them all I wanted was common courtesy & common sense.

Just a recommendation....next time take the fast passes even if you don't want them and pass along to a family with small kids. You will absolutely make their day. :)

I believe the FPs are just added to your MDE account, so you cannot give them away anymore.

In the past bell persons assigned to VGF and BLT considered it a bad assignment due to the poor tips. The better, faster bell persons have seniority and work at the resorts that tip the best.

Not being able to use the bell carts at WDW is a policy designed to increase bell tips plus guests tend to leave the carts all over the resort and not return them.

Yea I couldn't transfer them to anyone. I was just fuming that they were just sitting there watching my food spoil/melt

Gotcha.....that make sense. I know we've made a few peoples day when we had a couple of Soarin' paper passes that we gave to a couple. Line was 1 1/2 and we just appear out of nowhere and say, Hey want a FP?
Turns out they were on there 40th wedding aniversary. :)

40th? that's awesome!
I got a free FP back in the 'paper days' to the Barnstormer-given to us by a CM as we got off the ride. I in turn gave that to a young family that was at the end of the line. They were so grateful!

At the villas I've never had a bell services person just follow me. Boardwalk is the worst where one person unloads your car, another takes it in, then they hand it off to the desk and a third person delivers it to you. And it takes at least an hour total. And really, one should tip all 3 because each of them has dealt with your bags.

So it's always best to ask "can you follow me up?" and if they tell you their procedure, which is generally NOT to follow you up, just...take the groceries off of the cart. Sounds like you had the room, so just take them up on your own.

Most people wouldn't have brought the cart back down. THAT is why they don't want you to take the cart.

We used Bell for Bay Lake but at Contemporary, because that's where we checked in. Left the bags at CR, went about our day, and when we went back later to find out our room number (I have never gotten a room ready text) and got to the room, we called and Bell delivered bags to us.

I completely understand. I looked at the bell services person in the eye & said 'this is frozen & refrigerator stuff & needs to come up now. It cannot sit here in the sun' She just smiled at me. I went to take it up myself & they insisted that they bring it up. I assumed (there's that infamous word) they were right behind me. That's why I was fuming when I went down there & she was standing next to the cart, smiling away.
I usually tip them well-especially if I'm staying at a resort where they have to walk up outside steps. Not a fun job but I appreciate the working stiff like me.

Understanding why Disney does what they do can make for a better vacation.

In another cost savings move Disney outsourced the valet and car un-loader functions, these people do not work for Disney. The agreement with the union is that the un-loader leaves the luggage in the bag room. A bell services person in rotation will then take your luggage to your room. It's all about the tips, the bell services people were not being tipped enough when unloading cars and they didn't want to work along side the outsourced valet. Bell services CM's by seniority will move to the resorts that tip the best.

Bell Services is one of my least favorite things about DVC. While I appreciate having the service for those who use it, I prefer to take my bags up myself. I think the no cart policy is especially ridiculous at SSR and OKW (and to a degree, Kidani) where you park in front of your unit. We usually drive and it makes no sense to unload at the Carriage House for someone to bring bags that were already in my car to begin with.

SSR at least used to have carts prior to the new policy.

I don't really want to rail against Bell Services, per se, as there is definitely a place for the service they provide for those that want it. However, I do not like so much the feeling that it is "forced" upon you.

We left BLT on Monday, July 4. Called, had a person come within 5 minutes, he waited with me and the stuff while DH got the car, and he helped load the car. Excellent service, the man has worked for Disney for 11 years, the first 3 he had an exclusive outside job, and says that was brutal in the heat. Has been a bell person since.

Best news, got to BCV at 11:30 and our studio room was ready!

That's awesome. I can't say that a room has been ready for me at any DVC resorts upon my arrival. Albeit, I'm usually early, but I have had rooms ready for me at non DVC resorts before when I was early.

I'm sorry you had a terrible experience! We've never had trouble with Bell Services, though, and we use them frequently on our check-in/check-out days to store carry on items, and depending on the resort, transport from the room to the front desk with our luggage. We've also never had a problem with them improperly storing groceries before, so perhaps you just got the one bad employee?
