Day 4
Wednesday 17th June
We had been given a late breakfast slot for this day and as no Fantasyland Breakfasts had become available we decided to have our breakfast at Salon Mickey, thus we would get to the park quicker and I hoped to make my target of being first into the park. We arrived at the security gates at about 7.50am, there were 2 women already waiting and I was quite surprised that these gates didnt open until 8am as I thought it was the entrance to the park that didnt open. By 8am there was about 15 people all waiting, as soon as security opened I ran through, DH eventually caught up and we made it first to the park entrance, we went through and were so amazed that everyone behind us had disappeared. We took photos of Main Street completely empty and with just me.
We had almost reached the top before anyone else started to walk through. We went on Dumbo, Tea Cups, Peter Pan, Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear and by now it was about 9am so we made our way to Salon Mickey where we followed two men in who had the biggest pin trading suitcases I have seen. They were speaking French so I couldnt understand them but I would have loved to have known what they were doing especially as they were allowed straight into the park. There was a pin trading event happening on the Saturday at Newport Bay Club so I presume that was why they were there but it doesnt explain why they were taking all their pins into the park. Here is my review copied and pasted for ease: On Wednesday 17th June we had been given a late slot for breakfast which we were not pleased with as it would have meant missing EMH so after being the first people in the park and going on pretty much all the rides open we went to Salon Mickey at about 9.15am. I expected it to be quite busy at this time as I thought a lot of people would be having breakfast before going into the park, however again it was quiet with only the two tables being used. This time we sat on the sofa and each had a Mickey Brioche and a cookie. We were very happy with the Brioche as they had not had them on our first visit and we had actually bought them on the previous day. The food was lovely and the hot chocolate machine was working which was also delicious.
After we had finished our breakfast which made a nice change from hustle and bustle of the hotel we made our way to the Studio Park. When we had previously been they didnt open Studio 1 until 10am and I presumed this would be the same but no at 9.45am Studio 1 was open and you could get to the rides but the queuing areas were not open. This did not stop people though and the queue for Crush was already a long way back. We joined the queue and waited another 15-20mins after 10am before we went on. We started facing forwards but spent the majority of the trip backwards. I think the ride could do with being longer and something definitely needs to be done about the queue times. We were there queuing for about 40mins and the shortest time we saw after this was 45mins. This was the only time we did Crush as the queue put us off for what otherwise is a very short ride. Hopefully Fast Pass will be introduced; they have spare machines from Studio Tour that they never seem to use, even if there was only a limited amount of tickets it would improve things slightly. We picked up Fast passes for Tower of Terror and then noticed the Art of Imagination was about to start so we watched this before going on Tower of Terror which I have to admit the thought of this terrified me. After about 5mins we were seated and I was gripping on each side as hard as I could. The ride started and although it was a bit of a shock to start with I quite enjoyed it. Unfortunately due to time constraints and the fact we didnt spend that long in the studio park we didnt go on in again but I know in future that I can. We didnt have time to use our second Fast pass as we wanted to see the Stunt Show Spectacular which we noticed had changed slightly since our last visits. Audience members do not play actors in the film anymore and the trick of the backwards car is revealed much sooner than it used to be.
We then had lunch at Café des Cascadeurs, here is my review copied and pasted for ease: We ate at Café des Cascadeurs at 1pm on Wednesday 17th June. We went straight in after the Motor Stunt Show Spectacular and could either eat at the bar or a table outside. The booths are strictly reserved for families. We chose to eat outside. The menu was quite limited with the choice if about 4 things. We both chose the Giant hotdog which came with fries and coleslaw. I had my hotdog without cheese sauce which seems to automatically come on the hotdogs nowadays. We have eaten at this restaurant before when it was more counter service when it still used to serve hot dogs etc but more like Hyperon Café than Annettes Diner. We had to wait quite a while for our order to be taken as the waiter seemed more interested in preparing further tables for non existent guests than taking our order. After people from the next table went over to get his attention he finally came and took our order. When the food came it was lovely the same as the hotdogs elsewhere in the park. From memory I think the meal was about 10.50 Euro which did not included a drink, this is quite expensive when you compare it to Caseys in main street but it was nice to sit outside at a table for a while. Instead of waiting for our bill we went through to the till and showed our shareholders card which can now be used here. I noticed that the high chairs all come wrapped up with cling film and underneath is a frizzby for the child to take home which I thought was nice. This restaurant sits very few people and obviously less in winter when the outside terrace is not in use. When we left I sat on the motorbike which is constantly running outside to have my photo taken.
We then decided to do the tram tour. The queue time said 35mins but we were waiting a lot longer than that mainly due to the fact that only 2 trains were running and only about half the carriages were being used we presumed the TV/sound was broken in the others. This really needs to be sorted out and new props should be added as they have a lot of dated items it would be nice if they swapped them. The costume department has also gone which is sad and does make the ride shorter. When we finished this we had just missed the English Playhouse Disney Live and I was getting a bit stroppy as I was hot and tired. We asked where High School Musical would be and walked up and down between the two points where no-one seemed to be queuing. Then all of a sudden out of no-where there was a massive crowd and only a small space left for us. The show was good, maybe a little too long for something outdoors, would maybe be better in a theatre.
After this we returned to the other park where we went on Honey I Shrunk the Audience. This didnt seem to be on as frequently as it used to be and we had a long wait before being allowed into the Kodak section which quite frankly is just boring. The film is good but the French voice is so loud it is difficult to concentrate on the headphones and it seems really silly that the film was obviously shot in English but they dub it so its in French. I think this is a bit old and tired. Captain Eo wasnt on for nearly as long as this and I think it would be nice if it did change.
Again I had been told that the pin trading board would be in the Emporium from 6pm onwards so we got some candyfloss and waited for 6pm to arrive. I left DH on the bench and went in, no sign but there was a man with a bag with material flaps each covered in pins, he was French but spoke very good English and explained that the Pin board would not be there as he was preparing for the event on Saturday. I got clarification from a CM as DH thought he might just be telling me that so he could get the good pins! The CM said he was ill but either way he wasnt coming. I had at that point basically given up on finding the pin trading board and was thinking about just trading my LEs with normal pin trades from lanyards.
We left the park visiting the Disneyland Hotel shop on the way out, this hotel is definantly the best, I just wish we win the lottery so we can stay here again. We made our way to our hotel before changing and heading back to Café Mickey, review copied and pasted for ease: We ate at Café Mickey at 7.30pm on Wednesday 17th June. We arrived at exactly 7.30pm as we were running late and there was a queue outside. One lane for people who had reserved and another for those who had not. We only had to wait a couple of minutes before a table of 2 was free so we were ushered through ahead of the 2 families in front. We had already decided to have the pizza as I had heard it was good and we had not tried it here before. To start we shared Tinkerbells Mozzarella and tomato tart. I had all the Mozzarella and DH had all the tomato we shared the tart which was delicious. It also came with a salty tasting kind of dip, any idea what this was? It was nice to have with the mozzarella. For mains we shared cheesy garlic bread and a pizza with bacon, pepperami and Italian chicken on. By this time I was feeling quite tired and my throat was quite sore so I was not really in the mood for eating. The pizza was fine, maybe a little greasy and my personal preference is deep pan, but DH really liked it. The garlic bread is the same size as the pizza huge so you really dont need much. For pudding I had the Snow White Apple Crumble which was very nice. To drink I had a non-alcoholic Mr Smee and my DH had a vanilla Coke. The service was relatively quick and I was surprised how many people were having a birthday whilst we were there. There were quite a few characters out but in the first 45mins only Friar Tuck came to our table. The main problem was children from a completely different section of the restaurant dragging the character over to their table so if you were supposed to be next you missed out. Luckily for us after 45mins we got a new family sit next to us who did exactly this which meant that the characters came to us straight after they had seen them. We then saw Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Gideon, Gipetto, and Captain Hook. Pluto was running round but the restaurant was so busy with the upstairs and conservatory all being used and the characters are only allowed out for a limited amount of time before having a break. Would definitely recommend this place, we were here for 2 hours but didnt seem this long. Its a shame they no longer do the adult buffet desert but this is now reserved for children. This restaurant is already on our list for our next visit.
After dinner we visited the Newport Bay shop and just entering the hotel made me feel like I was coming home. It was so late by the time we got back we just went straight to bed.
