Belle redesign in parks

I would have no idea who she was if you just showed me a picture. I think you are right that a lot of kids won't even recognize her. I think DD(6) would walk into Enchanted Tales with Belle, see her and say "Where's Belle? That's not her". The dress is totally the wrong color and the hairstyle looks wrong too. I can't tell from the front photos, but does she at least have the yellow ribbon in her hair like Belle wears with the dress? I agree with those that say she has gone from Belle from Beauty and the Beast, to unrecognizable random bad Southern Belle. I was also unaware that Belle wore giant hoop earrings--- hmmm maybe she has been in Jasmine's jewelry box?

No. It's been replaced with a hair comb

Are there official Disney pics of the new princesses anywhere? Love the new Belle, Cindi's hair is a little odd--I'd like to see more!

I almost wonder how much of this is due to the way monitors display colors. ON my work computer it was horrid. On my cell phone the colors look spot on, and my home laptop, the colors look a bit pale, but not nearly as pastel as they did at work... :confused3

So my DDs 6 and 9 recognized her immediately without even being told this is a Disney person; I just showed them a random internet photo. However, they also agreed that it looks nothing like her and that her hair and her dress are all wrong.

ugh.... I do not understand why they are doing this. The princesses need to look like they do in their movies. I hate the new blinged out tiaras on all the princess merchandise. The simplicity of their dresses and tiaras were what made them so classically beautiful. :rolleyes2 Wish I knew who to complain to, but I doubt it'd make a difference at this point.

I kinda like Cinderella's new look. I think it's the hair that messes me up on Belle. Yes the dress needs to be more yellow, but that could be the sun/camera/monitor who knows. But the hair isn't Belle's hair. Next thing you know Snow White will have long curly hair and no headband. I don't understand how they make so sure that Captain Jack looks like Captain Jack, but then goes and changes the princesses. Is Aurora also changing?

The dress is really pretty and the hair is really pretty but never in a million years would I guess that THAT was Belle. :confused3

Another case of "it's not broke, but Disney fixed it anyways". Yuck!

I can't help you with 4 year olds, but I ran that new Belle pic and the Cinderella pic and group drawing from the other thread passed my 3 year old. She accurately identified everyone.

I suspect that the average child doesn't care about this issue as much as mmany adults in this thread do.

:thumbsup2
I don't think any child will have trouble identifying her in context. She's the only princess in yellow, so there really isn't room for confusion. My 2 year old niece had no trouble identifying her. Now, if I had shown her the old Belle picture and THEN the new, then of course she might be confused as she would think I was showing her a different person.

That said, personally I love the new hair, love the new dress - dislike the new color. But, I prefer bright over pastel any day.

Ug the new one is SO HORRIBLE. Cinderella change wasent bad at all, but this is horrible. It doesn't look like Belle at all. The color or the dress is completely off and her hair is out of place without the yellow rose scrunchie. Disney better change this back, it's so unacceptable. Looks nothing like the movie!

Interesting that the latest Disney Store Belle costume is in the lighter shade of yellow.

And the dress up gown has the roses on the skirt just like the new park redesign bodice does in the textured brocade/jacquard? Velvet... Pardon my fabric terms if totally wrong...

Not so much change for the sake of change but for the sake of $$$$$

oh the horror

I liked the changes to the Cinderella costume but am not a fan of the changes to Belle's costume. I really don't like the hair or the color of the dress.

My four year old pointed out that the bottom picture wasn't Belle because she wasn't wearing a crown. She didn't say a thing about the dress itself.

I absolutely hated the original dress. I thought the design with those "tube" things looked horrendous, and that really awful yellow didn't help it at all; It's really the only princess costume that bothered me. I *really* like the new design, and I'm even ok with the softer yellow. I do wish they had kept the orginal hair/wig design, though.

I wish they had gone with something closer to the yellow dress in the HS stage show though. This is my favorite "real" version.

Sorry for the large photo!

Now that's a style I could get behind. Not my favorite color. But the style is perfect.
