We are moving on Tuesday and called Rogers about setting up services to our new house. It has been lived in for a year by the builder but they had Bell satellite and not Rogers. Spoke with Rogers and we have to agree to a two year contract to get it for no cost (the installation and connection with the rest of the neighbourhood) ... which is fine ... but they tell us it could take up to 90 days!!!!!!!!!!!!! 90 days with no internet and tv??? I can't do that ... I use my computer a lot (for things other than dissing!! lol) ... and I can't imagine not watching American Idol, the Olympics, the news, Y&R, all the kids shows, etc .... so Bell can do it right away on Thursday when they put our phone in (was going to switch home phone to Rogers but if it takes three months I can't wait for them to do it as we are putting a security system in our house a few days after we move).

So what do you have??? Would it be absolutely horrible to be with Bell for a couple years contract and then switch over if we can't stand it? Is no tv or internet for possibly 90 days worth it??? I dont' know what to do ... and i know this shouldnt' be the most important issue right now ... packing is number one!!! LOL AHHHHHHH .... packing is not fun!! :(

Thank you .... want honest opinions please!!!

I find it odd that Rogers can't switch you over sooner than that...when we switched from Bell to Rogers they couldn't wait to get the job done. I can honestly say that our family wouldn't be happy without TV for a few days let alone 3 months  I'm not sure that there is much cost difference or programming difference between the two but when we were with Bell we often lost the satellite in bad weather which was a nuisance and the Roger's PVR is better than Bell's. The bottom line for me would be the 3 months...if Rogers couldn't get it done then I would stick with Bell.

I would call Rogers back and tell them that bell will hook you up right away it is amazing how fast they can work if they think that they will loose a customer.

I'd double check the 90 day thing. That just doesn't seem right. We switched to Home Phone in the fall, and I know it was less than a week to get it done. Assuming Rogers is already in your area, it shouldn't take any time at all, should it? :confused3 What kind of reason do they give for such a delay?

The reason for the delay is that building permits have to be issued - whatever the heck that means ... and with winter weather they may not be able to do the work as quickly!!!

And the girl who does the building permits can't offer me any deals or anything ... she just does that part and she can't hurry things along. That is the other end of Rogers (the 888-rogers1) ... and I have said it about Bell and they have said "oh" ... that is the response I am getting!!!! It is pissin' me off!!!!!!

I am leaning towards Bell even though I don't really want to!!!!;)

We have Bell and we like it just fine. Also, assuming you have kids, Bell has the Disney channel but Rogers does not, last time I checked. Also, there have been some great deals out there on the equipment. If you want a PVR, consider getting the Bell 6131 HD receiver and then buying an enclosed hard drive that you can connect to the USB port. They cost about $120 for the EHD and depending on where you get it, $100-$200 for the receiver. The Source has a two room bundle where you pay $350 for two 6131 HD receivers but you then get $200 back in credits on your Expressvu account. I have no complaints and have never had my satellite go down, even in bad weather. At the very least, if you don't sign a contract, you can try Bell out. Rogers usually has promotions where you can trade in a Bell receiver for a free Rogers PVR for a year or two. If you hate it then make the switch. The only thing I like more with Rogers is their on demand service. But with three kids under 5, having the Disney channel makes up for it.

Me personally, I would run far, far, FAR in the opposite direction from anything related to Bell (that includes phone, TV and internet for that matter). We dealt with them for more than 15 years, and their customer service deteriorated to beyond reprehensible. If you have ANY kind of problem that you want resolved, it has been our experience that Bell is not where you'll want to be.

We switched to Cogeco cable over a year ago, and have had nothing but positive results.

We did have a Rogers cell phone years ago, and had no issues at all.

I will agree with the rest though....90 days seems crazy. I would very nicely ask for a manager at Rogers and see if you couldn't get something accomplished that way.

Good luck!

I have been using Bell for about 8 years (TV, phone, internet, cell). I left Rogers due to poor service (and recently some of my neighbours have left Rogers due to poor customer service and interuptions in service). Personally, I've found Bell customer service to be good.

Honestly, both companies have their failings. (Your mileage may vary).

I like Bell's PVR better than Rogers (some like Rogers).

I get very few service droupouts on Bell TV (ie weather issues), and my neighbours get frequent Rogers dropouts.

Bell can get you hooked up within a week (or within 48 hours, if you want to pay a surcharge).

For maximizing any discounts, I would pick one company for all of your phone, TV, internet and cell.

It is Playhouse Disney, not The Disney Channel...quite different.

And you couldn't pay me enough to use Rogers for anything.
