Being to picky for resale?

MY DH and I would like to buy 100points at AKV..
We want to spend about $74 a point.

We would like an OCT use year. we like to travel in the fall and not in the summer..
Our GFV will be OCT so we can have one membership number if we can get a AKV in oct as well.
We know this is a popular UY, and may take a while to find one..

Are we being to picky?
$74 not enough for AKV points?
Should we consider sept or aug UY?

You are being too picky if you want a deal TODAY. If you can wait 1-2 months, I am sure you can find that.

I agree especially if you are somewhat flexible on the month of UY. If you want a 100 point contract at $74/pt with an Oct UY, it may take a bit longer to find the correct resale.

We were also looking for BLT with an Oct UY, but gave in after about 3 months. Of course we got a fully loaded contract for our price, so that helped ease the pain!

I think the October UY is "popular" only because it is rare. At least at BLT, I think I've read it is the UY with the least points assigned to it.

It's also our UY and I love the flexibility it gives -- july and august are our least likely months to travel. I couldnt cancel a June vacation after may anyway, without the points going into holding, so not having June available as a bank is no big deal.

We also do not like to travel In July or aug. June is really hard to get good airfare and for DH to get time off work..
(Plus it gets a little to hot for us new Englanders)

September and May - we are not likely to travel in as Schools really don't like the kids missing during these months..

Any month from oct- April is fine..

However we love The last week of oct.. Weather is great low crowds..

But we can be flexible

We like October, too, but now that our kids are out of elementary school and in middle and high school, its pretty much impossible to pull them for a Fall trip. Something to keep in mind.....Once they leave the house, then we will be free to travel whenever.

We are he same would love got ravel in September but with he kids for now we have to do August. Y only problem with this is once the kids leave home we go from. 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom and we go fromAugust to September we will end up with far too many points. Nice problem to have.

We have looked heavily Into both of your concerns.. 1st I'm a huge planner, like to have at least a 18 mo. to plan. Of course any trip that might get planned in the last 4 months of UY would have to be thought through and planned to the littlest detail.. (My specialty!)

Assuming my DH could get time in sept.

We do know the schools policies from elementary, middle and high school .. (And we do know they can change) Elementary they don't like them missing more then 8 school days in a row.. Middle and High school it's 5-6 And they are strict about it!! Sept. And May are pretty much off limits!

Also here is New England, we get a week off in February and in April (normally NOT Easter weekend) Even if we had to pull them out we would try back it up against one of their breaks, so they should only miss a few days.. Now we will still be on the same schedule when they got to college...

So we are looking at a min. Of 20 years before we are going to be able to travel in sept. (Youngest is only 2)

So let assume it's just DH and I, and we are going to go in sept. So if DH could get the time off, and we didn't mind going during hurricane season On top of that we normally have to get air fare.. (Haven't braved the 22 hour drive yet) So Any trip has to be WELL PLANNED in advance.. I could only see and act of god or a death in the family that would cancel our trip.. And at that time I would think losing a few points would be the least of our worries.

But I do understand what you are saying about travel in sept. After children leave.
And we may look at a sept or aug use years.. If the price is right. But OCT is our 1st choice..

October really is not like a holy grail UY.

We have both Oct and April and both have resale contracts. The harder part is that you would like a smaller sized contract at a particular price point so it might take a little more time. UY only becomes important if you ever have to cancel. Having a UY that allows you to bank points should you ever have to cancel at least 31 days out and can't plan another time is a nice free bit of insurance. And having a UY that would allow a few months to rebook if possible in case you cancel last minute is also another mini-insurance. So just look for a UY that starts sometime prior but close to your preferred time of travel. It does sound like Aug-Oct would work fine for you.

It's not school policies we really worry about. It's clubs and athletics. My daughter can't get a good role in the plays if she isn't there for every practice. My son can't play in the game if he didn't go to practice. It can become a really big deal.

And you won't believe how fast high school moves. My daughter is on track for multivarable calc as a senior. Next year as a freshman she will get college credits for Geography, at fourteen. She can't pass those classes with high grade if she isn't in her seat as much as possible. We've moved travel to early august, yes it's miserably hot, but sports around here haven't started yet, summer baseball is over and school is out of session. The other options are Christmas and spring break, and hot for us is better than crowded.

What I'm saying is that ownership is for the long term. Don't get hung up on use year. Over the next decade....much less the next forty years, your life is likely to change in unforeseen ways....even for a planner.

We are not in a hurry to buy, and have some time.. We have just been watching prices sneak up..

This information is a little dated, AKV was only 2/3 sold at the time. But December held over 25% of the total points, while October accounted for around 5%.
