Being taken advantage of at work...

I am a legal assistant to a paralegal and lately I feel like the paralegal does less and less and I do more and more. This would probably bother me less if I didn't see her on her cell phone to her bf, texting, twirling her hair in front of her computer. I'm not saying she never works hard, but it seems she is doing the minimum and she seems to only work hard when she has to.

I'm tired of being walked on while my work gets pushed back, falls behind and she gets kudos for all the great work she's (I'm) doing.

I'm resentful and ready to blow, especially knowing she's being paid more while I do A LOT of the work. I've tried talking to her, nicely. I've tried explaining to her that I'm busy too. I generally will give her an inch or two, but find myself getting so irritated when she takes 3 miles.

I've put my foot down a couple of times, but in this economy I'm being very careful at picking and choosing my battles. I can't afford to be labeled a trouble maker and out of a job, but some days...I'd like to send her to the moon! Of course, she's still a shiney new penny at work in the eyes of management and everyone else thinks she's great. They aren't quite on to her yet as I am.

How do I continue to deal with this and keep my cool? I'm really starting to rethink my whole career. I can't stand people like this and this field is SO demanding!
